What the hell does this have to do with people's political views? The comments on this site are awful, and are getting worse. Do we really need political flamebait in every story?
The issue here is governments don't like having no control over cryptocurrencies. People don't know to what degree the governments will eventually regulate them or ban them, leading to the increased risk being priced in. People aren't willing to gamble as aggressively when there's an imminent threat of a government crackdown.
Having a blanket view of "governments" is in itself a political viewpoint.
It seems to me, quite obviously, that a large part of it is natural variation. But of course the rent-seekers in academia can't raise research funds on that basis.
I'm pretty sure that if you could do a proper academic study to disprove AGW/climate change you'd get a Nobel Prize and about a zillion dollars from the oil companies.
Whoosh. Fees are in the coin of the realm. So if the coin is worthless, so is the fee.
I think you're missing the point. The financial institutions will earn the real dollar transaction fees anyway, they don't care if the underlying assets are valueless.
"Discrimination" against the majority is kind of difficult...
What? No it isn't. It's simple. Here: "Thank you applicants! You're all pretty good candidates for the job, but if you're male or white we won't be hiring you." See how that works?
Yes, that's why in the real world the vast majority of senior jobs are held by black women. Except they're not.
No, because often it is required. We got nailed at work for hiring too many males even though we hired female candidates at a higher rate than males. We went over two years without being able to hire anyone decent because of that. It sucked interviewing one idiot after another and not being able to bring in any males. That really hurt the company, and it made my life much harder since I had to do the work of my entire five man team since we couldn't hire replacements for the people that quit to go to a new competitor.
Could you provide a link to the law(s) that force companies to hire X number of women and provide some examples of companies prosecuted/fined for not adhering to these legally binding requirements.
This is really interesting. Could someone in-the-know provide a rough calculation... how many nukes do we need to blow up earth into tiny fragments? And how do they need to be positioned?
I'm asking for a friend.
Lucky you managed to cover yourself 100% legally with that last sentence.
Have you ever considered that the working class Americans who voted against Hillary - against her, not for Trump - were in fact voting for their own best interests?
As with Brexit, making a protest vote when you don't actually believe in the alternative is not a good idea.
on both sides people have forgotten that the political spectrum is not a line, it's a grid. The X-axis from left to right describes one's attitude to the economy and the role of the government in it. The Y-axis is is the liberal-authoritarian axis that describes one's attitude to individual rights.
So rather than the one dimensional left/right, you have got a two dimensional economy/rights simplification.
Reality is multi-dimensional.
The origin of the grid is to let extreme right wing Americans think they are different from Hitler because they are in favour of de-criminalising drugs.
Here is my personal experience from a recent laptop purchase - I bought a laptip with A12 processor and 16GB RAM running Windows 10 on a 1TB HDD. First two days it was on, it was so slow I couldn't bear it. I sent it back and exchanged for i7 , rest of specs same, and that one was faster.
It was no benchmark but the experience was significantly better on i7 for home office type work.
You really can't dispute solid evidence-based testimony like that.
Some anti-JavaScript hardliners here and on SoylentNews have stated that they actually prefer what you call "a stupid way to avoid Javascript." Or they would prefer to download, audit, compile, and install a native map viewer application distributed in source code form.
Amateurs. They should be coding the native map viewer application themselves from scratch.
Somebody once told me, as soon as you drive off the lot with a new car, your vehicle depreciates by 30-50%. Just by buying it you lose that much if you were to trade it in.
It is also why I was always told to never buy a new car, no matter what. Always get a 1-3 year old car instead.
Not sure how true the above advice was. But that's what I was always told by a lot of people.
As long as you don't buy a new car and then immediately sell it, it doesn't really matter, it's not a cash loss.
Yes, over the life of the car you will pay more than buying a two year old one, but you are starting with a zero mileage clean vehicle with probably a 100k/ lifetime warranty.
I rarely re-order the same item twice, so I can't say "Alexa, re-order toothpaste" -- I generally want to browse around and read reviews and look at prices from non-prime shippers.
The child went ape-shit crazy cos she couldn't hear the ads. It's like she needed the audio fix that came with them or something. It was scary and reminded me why I don't make a habit of watching real time TV.
Should also have reminded you why you shouldn't have children in this day and age.
Luckily for the future of humanity we're not all asocial asexual workaholic cockwombles..

Anyone have a clue?

So for this topic, I'll draw the line at when online harassment becomes physical, then it's harassment
Well since by definition online harassment isn't physical, that's just a cute way of saying there's no such thing as online harassment.
Fake news maybe?

I take you have read an unpublished book then?
No, but I'm sure his handlers have.
I'd rather fly on a machine, not a giant flying couch.
If you don't need a sheepskin flying jacket and goggles to fly in it, it's not a real plane.
The person between me and the sun gets to act as a radiation shield (thanks!).
Either you'd run out of sensible reasons or you are incredibly paranoid even by slashdot standards.
Wouldn't more editor input be the way to improve /. or is improving it not the aim?
I think that depends on your opinion of the editors.
Nice argument!
That was clearly too easy. Show that 2^98,435,672 - 1 is divisible by 5.
It won't calculate on Excel, therefore its truth is unverifiable.
Quality troll, there appear to be a lot of people taking it at face value.
Then there is pig shit, cow shit and of course, people shit, run off from lawns, including large ones that people play golf on
I am not convinced that people crapping on golf courses is really a major factor in the destruction of our oceans.
Having never posted on FB or tweeted, my 2018 personal challenge is to continue to avoid both FB and tweets. It won't be difficult.
Such courage!
That was very wise. So proud of you!
This is like an AA meeting.

I would regularly have cars pass me in my own lane
It's a lot different on a full sized motorcycle. Once you are able to keep up with the other traffic it's a lot safer and more fun.
I rarely re-order the same item twice, so I can't say "Alexa, re-order toothpaste" -- I generally want to browse around and read reviews and look at prices from non-prime shippers.
You sure take your toothpaste shopping seriously.
