  1. Re:OS X on In Which OS Do You Feel More Productive? · · Score: 3, Interesting

I have to agree that I am simply more porductive in OS X. I admit that part the reason for this is that OS X is what I have used at home for the past three years. However, I do frequently use XP at work, school, and at a few relatives homes so it's not as if I'm unfamiliar with the operating system. To me OS X is simply layed out in a more logical manner and as such I don't have to think about the operating system and I can focus on my work (even if it is just posting comments on /.). I think the important thing here is to use what you're most comfortable with and don't bash anything that you havn't used more then once or twice. We may have different platforms, but we all still read /. Isn't that worth something? ;-)

  2. frame the issue on Linux: Fighting the FUD of Forking · · Score: 2, Insightful

You know, I've started to noticed a very strong similarity between the open source movement and the progressive political movement. Both tend to just react to attacts, are not proactive, and faile to frame the debate into their own words. Thankfully for politics, the progressive movement has picked up on this and is working to change it. The open source folk can learn a thing or two from this. However, issue framing is a bit too complex for a comment post so I recommend that all of you go out and read "Don't Think of an Elephant!" by George Lakoff. Yes it's a politically motivated book, but it's the best place to learn issue framing that I know of. Perhaps I'll get off my lazy ass sometime soon and come up with something for slashdot readers.

Then perhaps it's time that you check out OS X. I think you, and a lot of people, are missing a vital point. Mac users use the platform because it makes sense to them. Why do we go around telling everyone how great we think they are? Because we think they're so wonderful, that we just want to share it with you. That's all. Also, before you speak poorly of a platform, you should at least make a solid attempt at using it. Otherwise, just respond "I don't think it's for me."

This relates a lot to question #10 and is something that I'm yet to hear either one comment on.

  5. Re:18-35 #7 DRUG POLICY on Help Select Questions for Bush and Kerry · · Score: 1

I think this is a very apt question. Perhaps to narrow it down, one might ask "what is your position on 'drug courts' which deal with nonviolent drug offenders and try to keep them out of our prison system?"

  6. Re:18-35 #3 ELECTION/VOTING REFORM on Help Select Questions for Bush and Kerry · · Score: 4, Insightful

I think perhaps a polite answer would be "you need to read up on the separation of powers and why the system is setup that way. The judges are given life apointments so that they can concentrate on upholding the law and constitution, not making people happy."
