No it doesn't mean they stay in state. But a good percentage do. I work in a tech firm in MA and a good number of my colleagues are from MA schools (MIT, Northeastern, WPI, BU, BC).

Ha! You obviously don't live in Boston. ;) When you say outside of Boston, do you mean outside of I95?

He said he would go forward, even without the UN, yet France and Germany clung to the idea that they could stop him by delaying things at the UN.

What other option did the other countries have at this point? War? You know that's not going to happen over something like this. At least, not yet.

I think the rest of the world took Bush seriously, especially Germany and France. The media in the US (and US society in general) just resorted to France (and to a lesser degree, Germany) bashing.

It may just seem that the rest of the world didn't take Bush seriously. But the view of the world from within the US can be seriously warped at times. For those of you who haven't seen the world outside the US (and no, Tijuana and Toronto don't count), there's a lot more going on out there that CNN reports.

This is slightly off-topic but here goes. I believe there still is a difference between a university education and a vocational one. At least in the US of A, there are a -lot- of choices when it comes to your education. Many people just don't realize (or just plain delude themselves) when it comes to CS bachelor degrees. IMHO, CS != Programming my 2 cents.

I read about this survey where people were asked about their driving skills. More than 90% of people considered themselves to be above average drivers. How much of this is actually the teapot calling the kettle black? You may think that what you did was justified. How traumatic do you think it was for your daughter to see his daddy go beat up someone?

True. Although very hard to imagine, I guess it is possible for an advanced alien civilization to develop mathematics that does not have the concept of cardinality. It may just be based on continuity or graph theory. It may be something that has never been conceived by human mathematicians. But the optimist that I am likes to believe that the logic underlying the alien math/science is something a human mind can understand given the proper axioms and rules for derivation.

I see your point and I agree. But Math itself wouldn't be different. They may end up using different mathematical tools from what we use (calculus, statistics, graph theory to name a few). It's entirely possible and probable that the system they use may be different. But that wouldn't necessarily mean that it would be inconsistent with our systems.

Math is just a way of describing objects, forces, and interactions..

Ummm, no. That's not math. That's physics. Math is more abstract and one can do math without associating any of the concepts with "reality". One you use math to model reality, it becomes science and engineering.
