You seem to forget that Linux runs on many architectures besides i86. Loki might be eploiting the EXTREMLY small Alpha and SPARC gaming communitys. ;-)

  2. Re:Intranet File Search at Iowa State on Dorm Storm? · · Score: 1

Ya, at CWRU we have 3 or 4 LAN search engines. It is great. Makes getting those DivX movies a LOT faster (thanks to fiber network). But people still ended up using Napster a lot and the administration got kinda peeved at the huge bandwidth usage. So the restricted Napster access, but only ourbound transfer rates! We still get the blazing downloads, while people downloading from your computer are slowed down.

  3. CarterCopter Flight Tested Using $40 flight sim on Fabulous Flying Machine Progress · · Score: 2

The CarterCopter is being modeled and flight tested with X-Plane by Laminar Research. It is the most advanced consumer flight simulator that uses blade element analysis too calculate ALL of the real physical forces acting on the aircraft! Check out the X-Plane Front Page for pics of the CarterCoptor test pilot taking a test flight on a new Apple G4 (in the hanger with the actual plane in the background).

  4. Any Given Sunday, Anybody? on Technology And The XFL · · Score: 1

The idea of watching football game from lots of exciting angles is a good one. It's just that it is extremely hard to do, unless your in Hollywood.

I must admit after watching NFL games after I saw Oliver Stone's Any Given Sunday they just looked weak and mild. However, it took a lot to make the exciting football sequences in Any Given Sunday (like camera's hanging off of running backs and cameras in the right place for every play). The problem is that no matter how hard they try, the XFL is not going to get the excitment that is generated by a carfully orchestrated movie sequence.

  5. How about programs that help in other classes on Ideas for High School Computer Projects? · · Score: 1

Why not use their comp sci skills to solve real problems from other classes. It would be great to solve homework with a computer program they wrote. First real easy would be math progames, (or one big one, ala Maple). But also see what ideas they might coime up with for other classes as well.
