Physical objects given some 'greater meaning' by way of computing power isn't new, I remember reading about Durrell Bishop's Marble Answering Machine (instructions) about 10 years ago. Needless to say I'm still waiting to see it in the shops:-)
With the low cost of wireless electronics and broadband I expect we will see a lot more of these gadgets... 99% of which you can be sure will be pointless junk.
I keep a page myself on data visualisation techniques and hope that if these kind of devices proliferate we get to see some variety!
