Of course there is freedom of speech in the USA. I was poking fun at the Bush haters and some of their sycophant moderators modding up everything critical of the Bush administration. However, I hearteningly note that your reply was correctly moderated up.
Censorship is much worse in the USA than in China. You can write or say anything you want as long as it doesn't criticize the Bush Administration. Just ask Cindy Sheehan.
I was actually poking fun at the Open Source comintern. I tend to agree that OO.org performance pales next to Office.
One thing I do like, however, is the openness of the OO.org file formats and also the ability to save as PDF right on the toolbar. These are features that I like that Microsoft won't give me because they might promote the use of other tools.
I agree! M$ has crappy coders who don't understand basic programming and all their code is spaghetti. Only really dumb script kiddies go to work there. I'd rather recommend Open Source over M$ any day because:
1. Millions of eyes scrutinizing the source code will make it better.
2. M$ never innovated anything...they just stole everything.
"Bush Lied People Died"
We love free open source, e.g. Linux, but hate commercial closed source, e.g. Microsoft.
Unless of course the commercial closed source is Apple.
So let's be honest about this: we like the underdog! It's kind of a "flip the middle finger to the man!" attitude.
So please lose the open-source-do-gooder veil.
We're really just a bunch of teenage punks listening to Marylin Manson because it pisses off our parents.
It's really just a question of your honesty, Slashdot community.
Very telling that the pro-Bush comment was modded down to -1 and the pro-Kerry comment (including a sophisticated attack implying that Republicans don't read books) was modded to +2.
"Only a republican could use the learning process against someone. Although, seeing who's in charge, that starts to make sense."
I think most people can see that this argument lacks sophistication. Instead of broad-brush name-calling of people that disagree with you, what about a discussion of the issues?
The question you have to ask yourself is this: What are the positions of the candidates with respect to issues that are important to you? Does your candidate regularly vote to increase defense and intelligent spending? Does your candidate vote to lower taxes? Does your candidate vote against partial-birth abortion?
The quality of political discourse in public forums such as Slashdot is embarrasing. It amounts to nothing more than a grade-school playground name-calling contest.
The way to fix that is to educate yourself on the issues, look at Kerry's voting record, look at Bush's executive record, and decide which falls in line with your core beliefs.
64-bit Windows has been available for Itanium 64-bit for quite some time. The fact that it is not available for AMD's 32/64-bit hybrid is another story.
And lost in this discussion is whether the x86 architecture is actually good for consumers in the long run? It's got tons of exceptions, has an asymmetric instruction set, and is really outdated.
It's time to break the compatibility chain to allow forward progress. Kind of like depending on BIOS, ISA architecture, etc.
I'm so tired of M$ portrayed on Slashdot as a comic-book villain, often without substantial discussion of the issues.
Does this mean we still get to carve up embryos? Oops, I mean blastocysts? Err, I mean whatever I am supposed to call the fertilized eggs.
Yahoo mail predated Google mail.
"Reading between the lines, I reckon this guy came in, didn't like the Linux install, and wanted an excuse to move back to his beloved Microsoft."
From TFA:
"Having previously run SAP on AIX - IBM's version of Unix - Horton was comfortable with deploying such a mission-critical application on Linux."
Typo here, instead of Microsoft you must have meant to type IBM.

Check please.

Please mod parent down...obviously a M$ shill.
Sounds like this bank doesn't have shareholder value in mind. Which bank is it so I can be sure not to invest in them?

You hate Asian people.
Hmmmm. Seems to have touched a nerve. In my experience you get what you pay for.
