Don't forget that APT runs on RPM based distros too (like my FC 2 box), also FC 2 (1 too?) has a yum service setup by default that will auto update the system (if you enable it that is)
Also there is RedHat Up2date for redhat based distros... so my 1 computer has THREE brain dead easy ways of updating all installed software... how easy!
20% is a bit much to be a measuring error, normally they double and tripple check their findings, and a result thats the opposite of the believed trend would cause them to check more to make sure they didn't forget to carry the 1 somewhere.
I wonder how much the system is slowed down by haveing pop-ups thrown in the user face and all the other activity that NAV blocks that is on most users computers (like my brothers)...
I wonder what the ratio of slowdown via crap NAV blocks to slowdown via NAV is... that would be intresting
I run with a very limited account on my system. I never have to type the admin password unless I'm doing administrator tasks (configuring the system, using FireStarter, install/update programs, etc). Don't have a problem w/ programs freaking out because I'm limited either, and no I didn't set their directory to be writeable by me (or install into a directory writeable by me). I don't have to be as paranoid about what I run because I know it wont damage my system (and I also don't just run any program I see).
I don't have any AV installed because I don't need it, I also don't have any ad/spyware cleaner because I don't need it either (my web browser handles stuff properly so its not a problem).
If you haven't figured out yet, I'm running Linux:-). I want to have to type the admin pass to be able to do admin stuff because I'm smart enough to know NOT to type it if I'm NOT doing admin stuff.
Up2date for RedHat automatically checks for any updates, and if there are any it will ask you to let it download and update them.
Also a vulnerability on Linux won't be as bad on Windows, since Linux boxes often have unused services off (like web servers, crap like that)
Also Linux environments aren't as homogenious as Windows are, meaning more there is more diversity in what programs are run, like the mail apps, you got KMail, Thunderbird, Evolution, Sylpheed, etc.
The NAT has no services running to the outside. There would have to be a vulnerability discovered in something like the the network stack to take it down. Then all you do is just press the reset button on the back say it locked up and not reset.
Also most worm probably are targeting non embeded OSes
I find the normal Home and Pro versions of XP to be a pain in the ass, having to re-register when ever I change any hardware (INCLUDING RAM!).
If I had a pirated copy of XP (Corp edition) then I wouldn't have these pain in the ass calls to MS having to read off a 50 digit code to someone on the other end of the line.
Oh and now I do run Linux on my laptop and other comp, I do have XP on the smaller HD still and only use it for SOME games (starcraft, counterstrike, the numbers are shrinking).
1. Cut and paste doesn't always work, but between KDE apps it has never messed up for me (only if I use a GNOME to KDE / KDE to GNOME thing will it ever act funky). 2. All the games I play run on linux (ut2k4, NWN). More and more games are getting linux versions. 3. Font display is VERY nice. Ever look at KDE w/ anti-aliasing enabled? Its amazing how nice it looks. Also changing some of the things from the default Sans gives it a nice personalized look and feel. 4. Apt. All I gotta say (using the Synaptic front-end). 5. Kwrite works great for me! It has syntax highlighting for what ever type of document it is (html, php, bash, source code, etc). 6. What websites? There isn't any website I ever go to that only works in IE. Different people go to different sites, but for me I never need IE. 7. KDE is VERY polished. Ever heard of KIO Slaves? Those make KDE network transparent (its hard to understand how usefull it is till you have used it, it saves SO much time). Also not only does Konqueror support tabs, and an integrated terminal emulator, it also supports split views (and locking them) and profiles. I could go on but this is kinda getting long, time to move on... 8. Didn't you say this already...? 9. Yeah I'm sure you said this one, too.
KDE comes out of the box looking very much like XP. Though Keramik looks a LOT nicer than 'luna'. Also I can change the window decorations without using a third party program that replaces a system dll file (which may or may not be legal, not really sure).
Though it only looks like XP out of the box because otherwise people will complain that it looks too alien.
except it the hardware will also enforce it

Having some trouble today I see
"right when the most important US election in the history of mankind is gearing up."
a ir/32c9/zoom/ is perfect for you.
I should print out your comment and give it to my American Studies teacher.

AND I HAD MOD POINTS LIKE 20 MINUTES AGO AND JUST HAD TO COMMENT ON SOMETHING!
Blah! Okay so this is my first case of 'never having mod points when you need them' (I seem to get mod points like every other week).

His knows 487 more viruses than yours does.

Fedora Core comes out of the box with NX on.
Intresting... Fedora already has this protection on x86 processors.
You could if you had ActiveX, thats the only reason.

Not only that, also Sophos, F-Prot, and H+BEDV. Those are the 4 AV programs that Kontact supports OOTB currently (thats including ClamAV).
You need more empty soda cans on ur desk to call urself a nerd! I got 6 cans, plus 3 bottles of water (resently threw them all away)!
Oh great now we have Zombie coming in the Windows...

The root of C drive is always shared as $C. Its a hidden share that can't be removed.
Then go and help port GTK to OS X (port from X11 to their native interface)
And once your done then you can complain that GAIM doesn't have that functionality.
It supports buddy icons?

Never gonna happen...
ok lets do a little fact checking:
1. Cut and paste doesn't always work, but between KDE apps it has never messed up for me (only if I use a GNOME to KDE / KDE to GNOME thing will it ever act funky).
2. All the games I play run on linux (ut2k4, NWN). More and more games are getting linux versions.

9. Yeah I'm sure you said this one, too.
Though YMMV, which applies to everything.
