Congress and state legislatures represent the rabble, who are often small-minded, uneducated little bigots. The proper role of the Supreme Court is to determine whether laws passsed are in line with the Constitution and general human rights.
If the Supreme Court hadn't stepped in and "legislated from the bench" during the 1950s and 1960s, we'd probably still have legal segregation and bans on interracial marriage at the State level. Not to mention same-sex marriage would still be illegal.
In consumer class-actions, the loss to each consumer is often very small... i.e. a $100 electronic device was defective.
In cases against employers where losses from loss of income or health issues can be in the $10,000+ range, plaintiffs would get much more, even if lawyers would also profit.
There's also the angle that the companies should be punished for their bad behavior by paying.
The NLRB is given the power BY LAW to give employees rights. Sad that American courts seem to always side with the Big Corp, not the little guy who's been screwed over.
Would you be against them if workers had a genuine complaint and their employer generally treated them like sub-humans? Say they were exposed to toxic chemicals without their employer telling them or giving them proper protection, and are now paying through the nose to deal with health problems 20-30 years later.
One more reason to love unions. If you can't sue 'em, band together and strike, forcing your PoS employer to either play ball or go bankrupt. Paralysis can be a powerful weapon.
Taking the long view, keeping > 1 business in business makes sure that Amazon won't drive competitors out of business and raise prices in future. Too many ecaaaahhhhhhnamists take the short view.
BTW - the Nissan Leaf does the interior thing right, unlike the airy-fairy edgy Model 3. Nice big buttons for gloved hands to be able to use. Small, dash-mounted, well-protected LCD. Important info on a screen in front of the driver
I paid $100 for my touchscreen phone, making it a disposable item. Far different from a $35000+ car. Break the huge, ugly "iPad" in the middle of a Tesla Model 3? No HVAC controls, no wiper off switch, no radio/Bluetooth, no.............
The (old and new) Mini's gauge cluster is also mounted far higher on the dash and more forward -- it's much better protected from damage than the Tesla's "free floating" screen that actually protrudes a bit into the driver and passenger spaces.
If this is "technology" advancing, then all hail King Ludd!
You're talking about finding someone useful till the next job comes along. Finding someone useful doesn't require you having any empathy or love for them.
Still, electricity from clean sources like wind, hydro, solar, and nuclear (yes, nuclear) is cleaner than burning any fossil fools like oil or natural gas.
Also, having a car where everything stops working if that giant iPad in the middle breaks (and probably costs $2000 to replace) really sucks. And it probably doesn't work if you're wearing winter gloves either.
As far as "don't break the screen", try having kids, dogs, carrying lumber front-to-back, etc, etc, etc.
Actually, the "clunkers" should keep clunking for as long as possible. 2/3 to 3/4 of the energy cost of a car is building a new one. But if people are buying new cars anyway, they may as well be electric.
Which side are you on...

Americans. Temporarily embarrassed millionaires. Look it up.
Sad times when the sheep sympathize more with the wolves than with other sheep.
Work makes free, after all, and the US is all about freedom :)

Yep. The Vaio line were easily breakable hardware with poor driver support. I don't remember them fondly.
The color spottiness probably had to do with proximity to a strong magnet, like a stereo speaker.
I'm a progressive -- I also think that Big Tech knows too much and is often in bed with government/TLAs.
Anything that destroys this cozy relationship and causes friction is good in my book.

Fry's is also a West Coast (CA, AZ, maybe other states) grocery chain.
Local grocery stores: one is 24 hr, one is open till 11pm-12am.
Game of Thrones? You *buy* DVD's in 2018? What with streaming services, Torrents, and DVD burning?

They're only "not relevant" because most Americans sympathize with the bosses more than the workers (and they're generally part of the workers).
Was it Steinbeck who wrote that poor Americans see themselves as temporarily embarrassed millionaires, not members of the working class?
Actually, electric cars were more popular than gas in your great-granddad's times, at least among the rich who didn't want to crank up a motor...

A simple electric car, without everything being controlled by HAL-9000.

How they do it? Short supply chains = efficient logistics...
Amazon IS the filth in the gutter.
