    3. Sell OEM parts to tinkerers who CHOOSE to fix their own hardware. Sort of like most car and computer manufacturers do.

    User privacy protections aren't bad, but the best thing would be for MS to give users the real option of going cloudfree, not nudging users (hard) to cloud-up their personal data.

    They supposedly burned Penkovsky alive, but Penkovsky was one of their own operatives who turned and spied for the West. i.e. he was a traitor in addition to a spy. Garden-variety Western spies were more valuable alive, as pawns to exchange for Russian spies.

    They are crazy enough to arrest foreigners suspected of spying and exchange them for their own people. (e.g. Maria Butina). This was common during the Cold War.

    Not all password managers require "sharing data." Keepass is cloudfree.

  13. Anyone who uses a "clown" based product to store sensitive passwords must have a blurred mind. Password managers should be local only. If they need to "stink" with other devices, they can do so locally via WiFi, not "stink" via some random corepiration's "clown."

  14. Except that's not really true any more, at least in countries for which a wall would work. The fertility rate in LatAm and the Caribbean is 2.0, not so different than the US rate of 1.8.

    The only "slimy" people were the people setting up the red light cameras with too-short yellow-light intervals, thus maximizing the possibility of extracting a fine from innocent drivers, as well as increasing the risk of a rear-end accident. In a just world, they'd be flogged to death in public.

    Unless they didn't -- he was singled out for abuse because he attacked the state's source of revenue (red-light pig-cameras).

    The Arab Oil Embargo was a good thing -- it allowed more efficient Japanese cars to temporarily slaughter the antiquated beasts the US automakers were vomiting onto the roads. It's a shame that oil didn't STAY expensive after the early 80s. We'd probably be driving more electric cars, have more of our railroad network electrified, and we'd have much smaller cars (like in Europe) -- not as many idiots driving huge SUVs and pickups in the suburbs.

    Personally, I'd WELCOME another oil embargo or an Iran-Iraq-Saudi war if it puts worldwide oil prices in their rightful place: above $250/bbl.

  22. Portland is "liberal", rest of the state not so much. In fact, it's been known for its racism and intolerance in the past -- it was the only US state that had a law prohibiting Blacks from settling or buying land (until the 1930s).

    There should be a distinction between "Engineer" and "Licensed Professional Engineer (in Oregon)." Just like someone licensed to practice medicine in New York can claim to be a physician, but can't practice legally in Oregon.
