In my heart, I too hope it will not suck. The reason being, I will end up watching it whether it sucks or not. I am still in therapy for having watched "Nemesis." This will be an odd numbered movie so it should suck in theory. However, "Nemesis" was the worst Star Trek movie I have ever seen so things can only go up from here.
"See you later", he said. "See you later".. I still blame myself..
This post made my morning. That is some hilarious stuff. Mainly because I remember some co-workers acting the same way when it was about to be released. Actually, I remember some co-workers attending release party's for Windows 98.
Yeah, I have a government granted monopoly of my backyard. I am preventing competition in the market by owning my backyard.
No, owning a piece of land is not a government granted monopoly.
This is Slashdot where did all the Libertarians go?
Agreed. Another possibility is that one of them discovered a flaw with their method. Eleventh-hour bugs right before demos are the most evil ones of all.
Ding! Ding! Ding! This more than likely is the case. What is more likely to happen? These guys getting silenced and quietly removing their presentation or these guys figuring out they were wrong and quietly removing their presentation. If there was a threat from the company there would have been a leak about the reason for pulling the plug on the presentation. More than likely the presenter discovered a flaw and quietly pulled the plug.
Leave it to Microsoft to do a poor job at copying someone else's idea and taking credit for inventing it. What is really sad is many people who only know Windows and are not familiar elevating permissions will believe Redmond's lies.
Branson, is going to lease 83,000 square feet for $1 million a year. Does anyone know if this is only a small part of the space port or will he be taking the biggest spot?
I agree that computer knowledge isn't that hard to obtain.
Thats why I don't think someone getting passed content filtering would be considered top talent. A high school intern could do this but would that make him top talent?
The really smart people that are talented and do research are usually given a setup that allows them to do the work they need in a separate environment from the rest of the company. This would be done for a biochemist doing research. If you are just a business programmer you don't get this because you can probably be replaced by someone with an H-1B visa.
Since, you are in Risk Management you probably deal with 3rd party auditors who may interpret the regulations differently then you do.
In my opinion SOX is very vague on a lot of issues and this can become a major pain when you are dealing with some auditors who had grand parents who worked for the Third Reich.
How would that be the best talent if the company is a Bio-Medical company?
Oh, right because people with a moderate amount of knowledge are usually the top talent in most companies.
Good reply. I don't think most of the clowns out here sometimes realize that I.S. Security has to deal with a lot of IT Controls that are mandated such as SOX, HIPPA, FDA, PCI, etc...
Yes, we know there are ways around content filtering and there are legitimate uses for Skype or Instant Messengers but in order to be compliant with certain regulations we have to take certain measures.
So, if you work for a publicly traded company, or a company in banking or health care accept the restrictions that are set in the company. There isn't a need to prove how smart you are by trying to get around security restrictions that are put in place by the company that owns the equipment you are using.
If you were that smart you would be the one running the company and not a low level employee with limited access rights.
We do block the major web mail websites with content filtering. Yes, A moderately bright young chap could proxy his way around the content filtering. We have had those moderately bright chaps get fired for doing it as well.
Would the discontent be justified?
Most teachers have some sort of Interdisciplinary Studies degree.
I think we can all agree that a degree in IDS does not require the same amount
of effort that a degree in Mathematics, Chemistry or Biology require.
Teachers with a higher skilled degree teaching a discipline that requires higher skills should get higher pay.
If there is a sense of inequity in pay then maybe this would motivate teachers to gravitate towards a higher paying area in teaching.
Yes, the rival malware attacks are Germany and the Soviet Union and the Windows PC is Poland. Mac would be England and Linux is the United States. If this was a World War II scenario.
In the Politics magazine they have a listing for Democrat and Republican sections that appear to be pretty active. The Libertarian section is empty. On the main page most of the topics seem to be arguments between Democrats and Republicans. There is an article on Bill Redpath but there are no comments. It didn't take long for this place to just turn into another partisan battle ground between Dems and Reps.
I can't wait to read the threads at this place as the elections get nearer. They should have some really insightful information by then.
I've heard of a Cisco VoIP phone I have one sitting in front of me right now. I just never heard of a Cisco iPhone.
For the record I do not do my shopping at Staples I go through Dunder-Mifflin for all of my office supply needs.
The only thing I can think of is its some kind of publicity strategy to get the Cisco phones some press. I never heard of the Cisco iphone until all of this started. I did hear of the Apple iPhone but wasn't aware of Cisco's iPhone. Cisco was obviously not marketing their phone under the name iPhone so why is the name so important? I can only guess its more cost effective for them to spend the money on a lawsuit as opposed to marketing.
The gold standard is a mercantile system?
Excellent point. I forgot how bad Insurrection was as a movie. It was like a really long TNG episode but a really bad one.

I do now. :)
I've heard crazier arguments against capitalism so sometimes it is hard to tell if someone is being serious or not.

Amen! The moderation system works much better here. The only drawback would be the Karma whores.

HAHA I was thinking the same thing. Wow, nothing happens with you open a .vbs file with an editor? Impressive.

Kramer, was the first person I thought about when I saw the headline. Everyone thought it was a bad idea. Now he is justified.
