AFAIK in the SI (Systeme Internationale, the units and stuff standard that is - at least - used in Europe), the symbol for voltage is U.
But, hey, what do I know, I only study electronics here in Europe.
(Note that I learnt here hat the symbol indeed has been E but has been revised to U sometime ago.)
