I'll tell you why, Microsoft strong arms it's competition. I should know, I used to work at the number 1 pc company in the world. We wanted to change a simple config within windows that was generating a lot of phone calls. Microsoft said, "Sure you can change that, but we won't let you sell Windows or any other Microsoft products anymore." There's no WAY Microsoft would ever let any big OEM sell computers that dual boot.
If they'll strong arm the biggest PC manufacture in the world, they'll strong arm anyone.
That was the very moment I became "anti-microsoft".
I work at Dell Computer Corp at the headquarters in Round Rock TX. We've donated lots of money to lots of charities. We have another one coming up here in the very near future that we're taking a big part in that is sponsored by Vignette (another austin based tech company). Not that I particularly care about this stuff, but we do do a lot for the charities.. just my 2 cents..
Good point. You are right about everything except for the support. Dell's tech support is number one in the world and has been for some time now. Nothing you say will EVER convience me otherwise.
On a side note another good solution (except that it's not external) would be a Dell Poweredge server. I'm currently running a Dell Poweredge server with Linux and RAID 5 and it works quite well.
...and yes, I'm bias, I work at Dell.... in support...:-)
You may want to look at a Dell Powervault as a possible solution. Check out dell's website for details. They are VERY reliable and VERY fast, not to mention Dell has the best support in the industry.
I've read up on this a lot (seeing how I now longer own a single modem - can't stand those things) The Dreamcast will have ethernet around the same time as the Quake3Arena launch for the Dreamcast. If anyone has read the first issue of DCM (DreamCast Magazine) you'd know what I'm talking about. I just can't wait to take my Dreamcast to the next big q3 LAN party and ask, "May I borrow your TV?":-)
What in the world are you talking about?? I'm running q3test on a PII 333 MHz with a VooDoo 3 3000 and 128 MB SDRAM, I can push 60-90 FPS at 1024x768. What HW are you talking about? I've benchmarked Q3Test on both platforms on the same machine and not only does Linux get higher fram rates, it also looks a little different (better in my opinion... You must not be using the right drivers or you have the VERY NEWEST HW..... and you can't tell me that the newest drivers for windows work well with the newest hardware, I'm in tech support, I know better.
The real test will be when SEGA releases the 10/100 card for the dreamcast and we can simply test this on a LAN. That way there would be no ISP routing or monitoring going. According to everything I've read so far the 10/100 NIC should be released within the next 6 months (as long as it's in time for Quake 3 Arena). At least then we can get a definite answer to the whole telnet idea. It should be interesting if nothing else.

You can't be serious... If you are, you're a COMPLETE IDIOT!!
...Oh, and did I mention that you can order a Poweredge with Linux factory installed?!?

All I got to say is 'Hell Yeah!!' This is probably the most intellegent post on this entire thread. Good work, I couldn't agree with you more.
