  1. Akihabara on Yet Another PC-Mac Case Mod · · Score: 5, Interesting

I came across something similar in Akihabara a couple of years ago: http://context.metalbat.com/index.pl?671 The i/30 is an SE/30 fitted with a G3 mobo and with the B&W CRT replaced by a TFT. Excellent.

  2. Re:Replacement for iPod? on Motorola Readies Music-oriented Linux Mobile Phone · · Score: 5, Informative

Apple will replace your iPod battery for free if it's under warranty. If not they charge $99. If you want to install it yourself, you can buy one and do so.

  3. Virtual GameStation on PSX Emulator Performance Investigated · · Score: 5, Interesting

Connectix was truly ahead of their time with Virtual Gamestation. I played all the way through Xenogears and Chrono Cross on a 333MHz iMac with a macally iShock, and it was quite a pleasant experience. There were a few rare glitches and the occasional squishy sound, but having a 6GB memory card was nice. :D It's amazing that they were able to put such an emulator together, to instantly expand the Mac's game library to thousands of titles, but it's very sad that legal action by and subsequent agreements with Sony made them have to shelf the whole project. VGS2 or at least VGS for OS X would have been nice.

  4. Human Translation on Two-Legged Home Robot, Coming Soon To Japan · · Score: 5, Informative

A two legged robot that you can play with in your home will be available as early as the end of this year for 500000 yen. Venture company ZMP and sports equipment company Mizuno, together announced on the 2nd.

As for 2 legged robots, Sony's QRIO and Honda's ASIMO are famous, but they are mainly for publicity purposes and are rarely purchased for general use.

nuvo is 39 centimeters, and 2.5 kilograms. It can walk forward, backward, left, or right, and if it falls, can get up automatically from any position. It can be taught about 1000 words, follow directions, (something [jishiki?]) or dance.

In the head is a camera. Using NTT DoCoMo 3rd generation phones, you can see from the robot's perspective, and use it as a remote controlled "security robot".

Minimizing the use of joints allowed the cost to remain low. Over 3000 orders are expected by the new year.

I wonder whether you could get away with ignoring legal threats on the grounds of "I don't have WordPerfect".
