There are hobbyists/artists that will see coding for free as an expression of their belief and an efficient way to kill time.
There are those that will see this as a business that can generate profit/wages.
Being someone looking to found a niche and independent IT company and develop through amassing talented programmers (whose criteria I use will only be interest, skills and character), I have no problem with both kinds. (It will be all fine as long as people have some programmer's logic and don't mix them up, otherwise lawsuits will be the only output)
The question is not whether they should include harddisk into Xbox but how large the size it should be (look at PSX). Considering the volume of music, movies, games and application files (or just multimedia in the most general and broadest sense), it is a good idea to have at least one version with at least 20GB and another 100+. And to make the whole system fault-tolerant (because of the high value of intangible assets on the drive), a third version with 2 harddisks. This is one decision that can cost Microsoft's investors billions or make them billions. It's not just the games, stupid.

I have been wondering what if people at Microsoft have this video phone function incorporated into Xbox. The subsidy for hardware, its ethernet port, powerful CPU and hard disk make this a viable add-on. If they really make it happen, then there will be Xbox webacams sitting on top of many TVs all over the world.
