Despite breaking the law, disregarding the constitution and making secret laws using a secret court which the people who they serve have no right to access? You may want to do a little more research on how the NSA is 'doing an effective job'
The real rarity in government is elected officials actually serving with an interest in the people.
This has no geek content whatsoever. In order to keep myself from slashing my wrists out of boredom I had to wonder about how hearing aid technology could be improved.
I've been biking back-and-forth to work for over a decade. About 12 miles every day both on bike paths and on streets. On a motorcycle you can keep up with the flow of traffic easier (especially when everyone is doing 35 in a 25) than on a bicycle so there's an immediate problem with cars and bicycles occupying the same space on the street which you don't have with a motorcycle. Also, two constants which have remained the same:
1) About 1/2 of all motorists do not like you being on the street and will speed around you dangerously close to make their point. 2) About 1/2 of all bicyclists do not like pedestrians being on bike path routes and will speed around them dangerously close to make their point.
In my recollection, Linus has never been much for getting worked up in fanbois pissing matches (pertaining to platform "greatness" or market share) What gets him riled up is stupid brain-dead code stupidly done by stupid people for stupid reasons. That stuff he'll take issue with regardless and argue about forever.
Watched a bit of it. The kind of nailed it. The effects, lighting, swelling music - a lot of talent went into this and that should be recognized. If you're looking for an exact duplicate of TOS you will be disappointed. Try to keep in mind these enthusiasts have big shoes to fill. The other Star Treks were not able to fill those shoes either and they knew it. That's why the cast and set was so different.
Taking the platform "seriously" really hasn't anything to do with it. The game industry has always been a chicken-or-the-egg problem with Linux: Games spur adoption, but adoption is abysmal without the games. I'm not quite sure how Steam figures they will work around this inherent problem.
Dunno about you, but if I were to make comments like that where I work, I expect the boss to say something like 'I see you're really unhappy here, so why don't you take this box and clean out your desk'. Why is this a big deal? It's not like he got jail time out of it.
These videos are horrific but that doesn't mean we need to "omg think of the children. censor, protect, etc". The real world is horrific sometimes and that's the reality of it. If you don't want your kids affected by the harsh reality of the internet, then get off your ass, turn off the tv and parent. Going for censorship because your too lazy to watch your kid will leave a very sad future for them and in the meantime, d-bags like Cameroon will take whatever liberty they can to construe these edicts into legal activity far-reaching into areas you never though possible.
If you are in one of these states you should really be raising hell to get these people out of office. They are bought and paid for 1% shills. Senate Minority Whip John Cornyn (R-TX), Sens. Ted Cruz (R-TX), Mike Lee (R-UT), Rand Paul (R-KY), Mike Enzi (R-WY), Chuck Grassley (R-IA) Marco Rubio (R-FL).
Just because "there's an app for that" doesn't mean I have to install it. I may even choose to write my own applications rather than installing something I don't trust. Having that option illustrates the precise value in Android over anything else. Your choices are not prescribed for you in a pre-bundled ultimatum of vendor lock-in.
It's pretty strange that anyone would find an audit or TrueCrypt "trustworthy". It's not open source. You can't compile it yourself. You have no idea what is in the source. At least with Gnupg you have to option of going through it line-by-line to see what the ingredients are. You can't, and never will be able to, do that with proprietary software. Even if you were to verify a single code branch, the publishers may be under a gag order to reveal certain details -- much like Lavabit making this whole argument pointless.
Overbloated software from private sector sold to government at exorbitant cost with large helping of vendor lock-in to ensure future licensing scheme and render alternatives incompatible.
It just confirms they're doing an effective job

It's nice to finally have some company down here in the basement.

The WebOS "scrolling mini-window list" and "flick off-screen to terminate" are direct ripoffs done by Apple in IOS7.

You should have Truecrypted. Doesn't keep people from hijacking your account but your files are of no use to them.
Pro Tip: Use a different password other than your login password for the encryption.

If the people objecting to the new default knew the circumstances around the decision, they wouldn't be objecting to it.

Not sure I'd want all the text books to be re-written based on a single find. How do they know the skull5 wasn't due to some genetic defect?
Clearly the preparers of this report believe in the parable of the broken window
This is no time for Microsoft bashing.

not to preemptively gather information for the police.
That's an assumption. If the NSA comes knocking on their door with legal papers like they did with Lavabit, you may never know about it.
Not open source? The source is available for download here.
Wow, TIL Truecrypt is open source :/

You just need lotsa untraceable lobby money to hear them.
