  1. Re:Visual design on Gates: Hardware, Not Software, Will Be Free · · Score: 2, Interesting

but who will visually debug the visual designer?

A nice animated penguin jumping all around and giving stupid advices! :)

My former SIG was "WYSIWYG, but what you see may not be what you want"

Visual tools are nice and helpful but the plain text is still by far the most 5, informative data carrier. Especially highlighted text...

  2. MoRe:"Current" music isn't crapper than old music. on Australian Record Industry Has Best Year Ever · · Score: 1

There are lots of good recordings, but noone seems to advertise them. In fact, good music => good taste => people start thinking => profits go south.

I'll do my dirty spam job
Les Hurlements d'Leo -- ethnic punk, + some jazz
Pendragon -- classic british progressive, a-la Genesis, Marillion, Camel of 197x
The Pogues -- drunken Irish music

Hmmm... I don't know more (exept some Russians) but I'm sure there are more.

    Yeah, there definitely is.

    MyDoom.

There are many computers still compromised, with open ports ready for commands and also known interface (as Mydoom source released too).

Hell, some people say they're still getting a vagon and a small cart of MSBlaster packages!

Also, suse sells 3 foot inflatible penguins on their website, i paid 25 bucks for mine, and TRUST ME... it impresses the ladies

    Wow!

Could you please send an ad of those to my email? ;)

Yes, seems like the companies are to choose the side. Big Business Hivemind making a decision....

The big picture is amazing, with not only corporations but governments involved.

Will there be a Stereo-movie "The Lord Of The Desktops" some centuries after?

  6. Re:fetch from 0xfffffff0? on In-Depth Look At LinuxBIOS · · Score: 1

AFAI understand, they mean not reading from memory @0x...ff0 but reading from hardware PORT #...ff0.

The CPU just tells the bus: hey, get me what's at #0x...ff0, and the bus gives back instructions to run.

There must be real geeks around to correct me if I'm wrong. And RTFA, of course (I did:))

  7. Maybe 'The Bat!'? on Nasty New Virus Variants · · Score: 1

I used to use The Bat! which uses it's own HTML renderer. CANNOT wreck anything, because it's just a renderer and not "critical part of OS".

It works well with plain text (column mode blocks? no problem!), downloads headers first, has amazing (but complicated) filters, and makes Re[5]: when you click reply on 'Re: RE[2]: Re:' message.

Not even a threat to software industry -- there are things hired specialists can do better anyway. Are there enough volunteers to write a fusion reactor modelling software? A market simulator? A weather model? A search engine?

If/when free soft wins, software companies will get paid for their work -- research, programming, and design. Just like any other companies.

    and cache/history page

and download which doesn't wreck everyghting when CARRIER is LOST

    and more.
