I can assure you that within this area of the Fed (cyber-warfare, crypto, security, intel, etc.) that MS is a laughing stock.
Well, I am relieved to hear that. Frankly, I am utterly shocked to realise that the US military let any MS product through the door. Its your funeral, I suppose.
Either you're lying, or the person you claim to know is lying.
...or your friends, a -never mentioned it, or b - didn't know about it. Or you're lying. Whatever, the things the g-parent said ARE a fact of life with differant versions of Office - whatever the motivations.

Well, I personally think flamewars rock.
If you think flame wars are anything more than a waste of bandwidth, then you are, sir, a complete and utter dickhead.
Look, surely the logical, obvious thing to do is to install slackware and just dl whatever you need, when you need it, compile it yourself...and what's Gentoos advantage?
Yes of course - I mean if GLIBC is a significant factor, then why wouldn't re-compiling be significant? BTW I'm going to up my 2.2.4 to 2.6. tomorrow and (discounting downloads, which I've already done) will take approx. two hours.

erm...isn't that MS only?

I agree with you utterly.
recompiling was a significant factor

And that reminds me, where are the James Bond jet-packs we were promised?
