if M$FT did buy them, all of the (US) Senators and Representatives would immediately be persuaded to pass stringent anti-spyware laws after their devices crashing hourly because of being clogged with crap.
Hmm....
Not necessarily millions, but definitely hundreds of thousands because of these two facts:
a) Windows is the world's most popular OS.
b) iTunes and the iPod are the most popular software/MP3 player.
Because of that, there are most definitely close to millions of users. And that's not even Apple marketing bumph....CNET said so. Wait...so it probably _is_ fake....hmm.

Christ, you are an anonymous coward. Don't you know the difference between PPC and x86 compilers and instruction sets?
Useful improvements? Such as, say, patching the security holes I can drive trucks through? Seriously, if I had an extra 10KB/s for each insecure line of code, I could be a backbone provider.
First of all, my rack is Mountain Dew green, which is awesome. I got this cool rack off eBay (which later got painted;-), and actually just built the components straight into the rack. Yeah, it does sound crazy, but not only does it keep my components healthy, it makes hot-swapping things a joy. As long as you can design a good support structure like I did, it'll work.
Good luck.
