Intresting that small Sweden is even mentioned, but in Sweden we have always been among the top in research even though we are only 9 millions compare to the other country's that are all alot bigger (not sure about New Zealand though:)).
I don't have an answer to why but some say, it seems like in the U.S alot have been focused on military and military research last few years which has given the other countries a bigger share.
I bet that U.S is gonna continue more, wonder what effect that would have?

This is pretty much like ever other charity, you pay them money/time/whatever and they choose what to do with it.
You still get something out of it because he will put his full time on FreeBSD and that benefits you! I trust him as an old time commiter to choose good stuff to put his time.
I ordered this book just when it came out and got it about an week ago.
Im still reading it since I try to read it very careful and Im writing on a review of it and several other books with exploit techniques also.
I can recommend this book and it was a nice review..

or just use the forks from Xfree86 that all the distros themself will use. I'm still waiting for XOrg to be more mature...
