If Google is selling my identity(Private Information) to their affiliates why is it that my phone is not getting blown up Google's affiliates. Why aren't they blowing up my email? Why aren't they flooding my postal mailbox with their offers? I think all this "ZOMG Google is selling your information to advertisers" seems quite alarmist. If Google converts my private info to some unique ID that Google then target me for their advertisers then I have no problem with that. I am not sure they are giving(selling) my private information directly to advertisers because then it would seem that the advertisers wouldn't need Google anymore once they get that information. They could target me directly. Does anyone have any definite proof that my private information is handed over to their advertisers? Are the cable companies selling my private information to their advertisers?
What if eveyone on Slashdot that is concerned about this issue were to file a complaint against these telcos here I wonder what would happen? I think that would be interesting to watch these telcos squirm their way out of this practice once justice comes a knocking.
The problem with #1 is that you insinuate that because Google purchased Motorolla it may drive the other Android manufacturers to give up their ability differentiate and to customize a phone OS and into the arms of Microsoft where Microsoft dictates the hardware down to the position of buttons on the phone. Possibly because the notion is that Motorolla would have an unfair advantage. Completely ignoring the relevant fact that Microsoft is giving Nokia preferential treatment with WM.
Big industry brought it on themselves. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cuyahoga_River used to literally catch on fire. It was declared so dead that not even slugs or leaches could live in it. If the manufacturers didn't willfully throw industrial waste in the nations waterways and rivers there would not have been a need for environmental regulation. Its important to realize that almost all regulation was a result of institutional abuse by industry. So blame the manufacturers not the regulation. They move to China because they can pump toxic chemicals in the air over there and dump industrial waste into the waterways. When you don't have proper environmental regulation you get this and and this So what would you do? Ask them kindly to please stop poisoning us?
Sure many of them are because not everybody can afford an Apple product. And quite a few of them have better hardware that Apple's. Some are made in the same factory with the same sweatshop labor as Apple's. [foxconn] The fact remains that Android smartphone marketshare is almost triple what the iOS is worldwide and growing at a much faster rate than iOS. Back when Android was a fraction of Apple's marketshare Dear Leader Steve told his followers that there is no way that Android is going catch Apple in smartphone marketshare. 2 years later and we have this http://www.gartner.com/it/page.jsp?id=1622614
How many Android phone were sold to people who wanted an iPhone but couldn't get one?
How many Android phones are sold by wireless companies that want to sell iPhones but can't?
How many Android phones are built by manufacturers that want to build an Apple product but can't?
It is Apple versus the world. Android is their weapon of choice. But nothing is beating the iPhone. It just so happens that every competitor has the same OS. To say that that OS is made by Google so Google is beating Apple is like coloring an apple orange and pretending to compare oranges.
I can't answer those questions and you can't either. You have provided no proof that manufacturers want to build iOS devices. No proof whatsoever.
You can split hairs all you want that does not detract from the fact that when it comes to OS marketshare Android is way ahead of iOS in smartphone OS marketshare.
You have any proof that the Ipad is an original idea because I have proof that its not. Who did Apple copy is the real question. So its ok for Apple to steal the idea from the originators of the idea? This hypocrisy from Apple followers is astounding. We know the real reason for all this recent Google hate. Anyone with a brain can see right through this charade. The massive amounts of negative comments started right around the time when Apple and Google parted ways. its obviously because the Apple fanatics along with paid astroturfers have started to attack Google, lobbing accusations that Google is copying Apple. The Apple fanatics and mad that Google has threatened Apple's stint at world domination.
The notion that if somebody makes a box shape with 4 wheels and anyone else that does the same is copying is ludicrous. The same thing with sillyness applies to Apple and their followers. The notion that if you make a tablet that is rectangle with rounded corners and a bezel with an operating system is copying Apple is laughable if it wasn't so serious.
What gets me is that the Apple fanatics would rather see a world where no one competes with Apple. They want to see a world without choice. Because Apple can do no wrong. If Apple copies other people's ideas then thats OK. Its getting a bit old. Your Dear Leader Steve Jobs does not walk on water. Get over it.
Have you not been following Android news in the last few months? Google withholds Android source from non-privileged partners, and they use compatibility clauses to control how vendors use Android. There have even been accusations from vendors that they throw out artificial obstacles for phones that use competing services like Bing. A Google email said they "use compatibility as a club to make [vendors] do what we want."
Just have to mention Laura DiDio, Rob Enderle, Maureen O'Gara , Florian Mueller, There is a common connection that links these people and I wonder what entity that may be.
Its not about a less that 7% change or an "almost 10% change" Its about an attempt to fool the court into believing that the Galaxy Tab is a copy of the Ipad using doctored evidence. Such as manipulating the aspect ratio in order to make the dimesions of the products more similar, Its about removing the Samsung logo from the evidence submitted to the court. Its about changing the color, also taking a picture with the Android app window open and depicting that as the home screen which is not true. etc. All of these things display a deliberate attempt to mislead the court and play the judge for a fool. I'm not sure if you would be amused if you were a Judge in a situation like this.
What then sir do you suggest hardware manufacturers should use as an alternative to Android for a big screen mobile operating system with an application base? The i-Ad powered iOS? or the maybe the Bing powered Windows Phone? All of them are selling advertising, All of them are collecting data metrics (snooping as u call it) in order to serve you ads to things you are most likely to purchase.
Motorola 'may' collect royalties on phones that violate their hardware patents including Android phones. Its not the same thing as collecting royalties for Android or any particular feature of the operating system itself. It still sucks in my opinion but lets get real here this is not about software patents which remain the bulk of the problem with companies like Microsoft, Eolas, Lodsys and Apple. Software is already protected by copyright it should not be stifled with patents. And people on here parroting the notion coined my Microsoft Public Relations such as "Developers should indemnify users" are pathetic trolls. When you claim that developers should 'indemnify' users you are claiming that in order to write software or be a developer you have to have billions of dollars and a massive legal department in order to write code and distribute it. That is a farce notion pioneered and spread throughout the press by Microsoft PR against open source after the SCO fiasco which they funded.
The reason stated was that NCSA found IBM's technology 'was more complex and required significantly increased financial and technical support by IBM beyond its original expectations.'
Translation:
NCSA found that IBM was trying to lock them in with ultra proprietary technology that would have required IBM's expensive services for the life of the installation.
Microsoft formed the cabal of companies and led the antitrust complaints against Google both in the EU and in US. Microsoft is behind a lot of the bad press that is coming out against Google. You failed to mention that very important piece of information.
You have any proof of this? or is this rampant speculation on you part?

Get a way with what? Increased marketshare? Apple has a market cap the rivals Exxon. So we have a 800lb gorilla and 2000lb elephant. whats your point?

I know... Facts are a bitch when they don't fit your world view.
Tell that to google when it comes to smartphones. Last time i checked Android was way ahead of iApple on smartphones.
Er. NIce try. But if you care to know the truth you can see that the idea that Apple invented that look is false.
Here is what Apple copied. What I don't understand is why is it that Apple followers wont admit it in the face of actual evidence. Seems irrational.

You have the Apple/Microsoft talking points down pat. And like a good drone you are disseminating them beautifully keep it up.
So is Florian the new Laura Didio? or Rob Enderle, Dan Lyons?
Speaking of commentard.
hmmmmm I would say the ipad looks like this at a glance

iAd at least, no idea about Bing, also has better data retention policies and better privacy policies than Google's AdSense network.

What should *consumers* do? Not take this shit. Not from Apple, not from Microsoft, and especially not from Google
what shit?
What then sir do you suggest hardware manufacturers should use as an alternative to Android for a big screen mobile operating system with an application base? I for one wonder how AAPL has avoided anti-trust litigation
That is explicitly because Microsoft has been waving the antitrust flag at Google for about 2 years now. In Europe and the US Microsoft gathered a group of their partners together and filed antitrust complaints against Google In Europe and USA.
