In the USA everybody has (or is able to have) guns,

Not legally. I'm banned from owning guns for my entire life because I was convicted for giving a friend of mine a nickel bag of pot when I was 16. Anybody convicted of a felony (and almost everything is a felony these days) is banned from owning a gun.

The most interesting thing from that article I think is the last line: "The government said the findings would have a minimal impact on longevity figures, which are based on census data collated during home visits. In addition, men over 98 and women over 103 are not factored into life expectancy calculations."

Would it really skew the averages that much to include everybody?

Look at it this way, if someone had claimed to have invented something that... I don't know, neutralized the pepper spray that the riot police were using to break up the demonstrations.

This is largely unrelated to your point, and I'm going to disappoint you by not providing any sources, but there is a common remedy for pepper spray. It is, somewhat ironically, called LAW, which stands for Liquid Antacid and Water. Basically mix one part unflavored (as in not mint!) Maalox (or equivalent) and one part water. Apply liberally to the affected mucous membranes and skin. I try to keep a couple water bottles full of it on me when attending protests.

Of course it would be better to find a preventative solution but at least this provides some quick relief from the horrible burning once you've been sprayed.

If you or your children are going to work/play with power tools, electronics, chemistry, or other form of engineering, you need to know what precautions to take to safely use your equipment and what the risks are when something fails.

In this case about the worst case scenario is loss of control resulting in somebody to get some surface lacerations. If your kid is intentionally flying $300 model airplanes into people, then perhaps you shouldn't let him fly one to begin with. Parents should be able to determine their children's ability to deal with a certain level of danger. If your kid's not prepared to handle high rpm propellers/BB gun/reciprocating saw then don't let them, but it's not a reason to hold back the kids that are.
