I'm going to go with both that linux is much more secure and that the users have to be at least somewhat smarter then the average bear.
Thinking about it, you're right, i'm behind some sort of firewally at all points when I install stuff. I guess that just seems like common sense nowadays. I just don't think about it unless it's NOT there.

I've installed Win2k, Win98 and WinXP all within the past six months and never had a blink of a virus. Updated just fine, was connected to the internet from the first setup.
But then, the first Virus attached e-mails I've EVER gotten were from MyDoom.A.
Maybe i'm just lucky, either that or I take network precautions.
