just want to ask TMBG why I haven't heard much of them in England since the early 90s, was there not a market for their music here? a lot of people I know remember the stuff that was out back then, but until we got 'malcom in the middle' on TV, it was only in the archives that we saw/heard them anywhere.
I agree that other measures could be taken before cutting off the service full-stop.
ICQ gives it a fluffy, all-singing-all-dancing GUI, which appeals more to kids i'm sure, so taking away the service for kids isn't their best move, all that would be needed is some re-writing in ICQ clients to say that if they're under 13, it clears the 'personal' information and blocks it for use, or is 'age' considered personal information too? if so that could be a flaw in the whole plan.
But what about the 'little guys'?

Not sure if this is 'redundant' by now.., but what about independent/underground bands, who rely heavily on any sales they can get to keep going in the industry, or get started?
If you take away all the major label music, where the bands/artists have millions in the bank etc.., then more and more indie/underground will start showing, or at least become more obvious, and this will cut into the way of them making the money to start out, if this is _really_ a matter of money at the end of the day..,
Communications and transport seem to stand out above all to me, can't say the exact reasons, but the ability to reach the other side of the world in 1-2 days can't be a bad thing:)
it's amazing what MS will do to win ppl back, or gain new ppl
i myself use windows/linux, on different machines, i have my NT struggling on a p200 (not running explorer shell) and my linux running quite nicely on a p66 (with X)
and.., if you 'fdisk/mbr' via linux commandline you get an error yes, it's a DOS/switch, not a linux -switch, so it would speak for itself to be done via DOS commandline

I agree, not only is it this 'security issue', but it is also childish name-calling.
I think the NetScape engineers should stand up against this, it makes sense to me.
I mean.., 'weenies', if it wasn't meant to be found.., they could've used a more 'insulting' insult surely hehe }:o)

Well, I like RealPlayer myself, when has it been too much work to delete the links/icons it gives?
and turning off that systray thing is so easy, it's in the preferences
it gives good streaming audio/video, i compressed a 21 minute long song to under 2MB, and it still sounded good enough to me
