why not getting a virtual server (linode, rimuhosting) and running a dlink firewall ? wouldn't it be much more reliable than a computer plugged to a cable connection ?

Home users simply can't afford to spend the equivalent of another computer on windows+office.
Darwin boots on any x86.
OS X is based on darwin.
Even if it doesn't install, it won't be that difficult to make it run on any x86-based computer.
