The attempt to find molecular basis I have disputed for two reasons. I'm sure an MD can do a better job of it, and I will be discussing this issue with friends and become more familiar with it.
Psychiatric diseases and diagnosis have become nearly laughable. The bible used to determine a diagnosis has been the subject of controversy since it was first published, and has grown more controversial in the last 2 revisions. If you are not questioning an industry where children are diagnosed as mentally ill and put on medication because they want to play, you are a fool.
Don't make the mistake of putting words into my mouth. I believe that some mental illnesses are real, some are treatable, some are not. That said, an industry that attempts to medicate normal people for doing normal things and diagnose them as "ill" doing as much service to humanity as the witch doctor pulling evil spirits out of people.
I read the article, what I don't see is who founded it and how they come to the determination that they can do what they claim. The article is written at a 10K view, which is fine.
I like how you apologize for your ad hominem, but it does not take it away. The main concern I have was ignored by you. Either failed to read or really can't argue my point. Thanks for playing "I know fallacy" and have a nice day.
The list of eugenics propaganda is getting longer, and I'll have to study this to determine if it needs to go there. On a hunch, I'm guessing that it will. I'm not a MD, but wonder if this is even possible due to toxins the body produces right after death as well as another more obvious reason. Suicide is generally a result of depression as well as other symptoms. The obvious reason for this to fail is that currently there is no way (nor should there be) to test someones blood to determine if they are suffering from depression. They could of course determine levels of substances, but humans are adaptive and can live with a huge tolerance or lack of certain hormones, amino acids, etc...
Now maybe it's just me, but the summary seems extremely familiar to "Detecting mental illness by analyzing your tweets", and "Detecting mental illness by analyzing your social media habits" which we have seen within the last year and a half. This one is a bit better disguised, but not disguised enough.
Good that you are a teacher, what State do you teach in? Then, is your class an elective or mandatory? I'll bet that it's an elective class, but I can verify that using your State. If it's an elective, then it's not required to teach it. Then, find out what percentage of schools have such a class. It is not very high, my kid went to private school so that he could learn Rhetoric and Logic.
Pay attention to the innovation company there, Google, and what their head count really is. Amazon also, but they are not on pace with Google in terms of automation.
* Automation still costs money and requires manpower. Or are you trying to imply that the NSA has never used any automation and that 9 out of 10 admins were typing on a few machines only? I think Snowden's level of access shows how idiotic that implication is.
I don't think the post you responded to asserted that it does not work. I can't speak for them mind you. The way I read it is more of a statement regarding how dumb it is to believe that they are not already using massive automation. Consider that not that many years ago, the NSA knew very well what Puppet was and used home grown solutions because Puppet has some nasty design flaws (some of which have been handled, but many others remain). I think your implication is based in ignorance and bias.
Every degree program I've seen requires a course in it, and every high school curriculum I've seen mandates it in at least one grade level if not more
In the US there is no such thing as this in High School. People don't see Rhetoric and Logic until College, and even then it's an optional class that most people skip for History (in our Universities and Colleges it's called "Humanities"). In fact most Councillors and Guides at College will recommend Humanities over Philosophy.
I can't speak for the country you live in, but if you are talking about the US you are absolutely wrong. Debate and Persuasion classes are optional in Schools large enough to afford it, which means it does not exist very often.
Solaris originally added some System V enhancements to SunOS, but did not change it from BSD. As Solaris progressed more and more System V was implemented and added but it was never truly System V compliant.
The easiest way to tell by looking for BSD or System V is to review the init system. System V has an/etc/rc.config.d,/etc/init.d, and/etc/rc?.d directories where BSD uses/etc/rc.* boot scripts. Solaris took a hybrid approach and went to an/etc/init.d with/etc/rc?.d directories without the/etc/rc.config.d structure. Of course that was dismantled for the proprietary init replacment service in Solaris 10. The original Solaris implementation of the System V init had copies of boot scripts in/etc/rc?.d directories instead of links. Some of these were still around in Solaris 8, but cleaned up fully in Solaris 9
Why would anyone need to heat up massive amounts of the sky to modify weather? That is a pretty stupid thing to say, and very unrealistic. If the system can heat up a very small area of the sky below the ionosphere it could modify weather. Logically you are claiming that in order to boil a pot of water, a heat element must surround the pan. That is crap and you know it.
If you have the power to hit the ionosphere, you have the power to hit lower levels in the atmosphere. If you add metal particles (aluminum and barium) the effect is intensified greatly. Maybe heat conduction is difficult for you, but I have a feeling that you are ignoring the obvious for reasons I have in the subject of my response.
The government can't even keep a surveillance program from leaking. What makes you think it is competent enough to keep something like a weather modification program from being leaked?
Logical failure! Look how long it took to keep COINTELPRO from getting into the public. Because one secret got out does not mean all secrets are out.
You can Google search results for metals being found in certain conditions after what appears to be seeding. Of course mileage varies with credibility of authors, but there is enough data to read within a simple search.
AC, what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.
I think you should read some history regarding the BSD and System V split instead of making up stories.
Solaris and AIX were based on BSD, HP-UX and IRIX were based on System V. All 4 of those were certified Unix, all 4 of those were "Legacy" Unix operating systems.
Your third item is closer to the truth than your first two items, but notice that what you state inside the parenthesis contradicts your first and second statements.
By this statement "windows cost a fraction of that in OS licenses and hardware" means that you have no clue how proprietary Unix works. Buying the hardware gives you license to the Unix. Hardware maintenance means you pay for maintenance on your Unix. If you jump into your time machine, long ago you used to have to pay extra for compilers and custom graphics drivers. Never did you have to pay for the Unix (no, SCO does not count!)
When you move to PC based hardware, especially when moving to Windows, you lose up time and get instability. SunOS, HP-UX, AIX, and Irix were always very stringent on hardware. This increased price of course, but damn if I don't have Sun E3s that still run from the 1980s. That, and they simply work without people putting their hands on them at all. Compared to Windows and weekly reboots? No thanks!
Linux adds some of the stability to the bulk hardware, but the bulk hardware is simply not as good. Making bulk means you lack the amount of QA put into proprietary hardware. Issues with driver compatibility are not as easily seen when you can mix and match what ever is cheapest. Our Dell and HP is not "bad" per-say, but not like it is with IBM P Series, Sun, or HP Unix.
8 machines to replace 1 does not save money. This is typical bean counter bullshit (fuzzy math) and not reality. A decent server is at least $2.5 K means you spent $20,000 on just hardware. Add OS licenses, AV protection, TS for remote admin work, Software do to _anything at all with_, additional network support, load balancing or HA to compensate for down time, and admin time, and you have nearly doubled the $25,000 you claim was too much for Unix.
It just seems typical of politicians today. It often seems like they've forgotten their history, so they repeat it over and over again.
Partial reality. It's easy to deny that many politicians are placed into office knowing a road map ahead of time. "Team Players" like Kerry and Obama know the ramifications and simply don't care about history. It's a different agenda, and exactly why the Republican caucus said on public radio "We don't care what the public wants, Ron Paul will not be on the Republican ticket!".
Actually they only need to make a brief study of rhetoric and logic to be able to fool people that lack similar training. Why do you think Socrates was against the Sophists? Why do you think Socrates stated that all members of society needed to be trained in Philosophy?
Alternatively, why do you think that Government has removed Rhetoric and Logic from public schools? It makes it a one sided fight.
But the Obama promised us that it would change. Your argument is invalid and you're a racist.
This should be rated higher than a -1. Any time Obama's policies are questioned, the questioner is immediately labelled a racist and the issue is labelled racist. This is done not just by the traditional people making money from racism (Sharpton/Jackson) but politicians and even main stream media.
For example: MSNBC last week spent about 5 minutes labeling Alex Jones, Drudge, and Greenwald as racists and claiming that they are partially responsible for the Boston bombings. Look, I don't believe everything Alex Jones says, but I have never heard him say a racist word. It's how they are trying to defend themselves at this point (massive ad homimen and well poisoning) since they are being caught dishing out propaganda and people are fed up with MSM. A recent poll showed that 70% of the people distrust both politicians and MSM.
Anyway, while perhaps OT it's a decent point. I'm sure that the citizens of the UK have similar issues as the US does with propaganda and race baiting.
Does not matter as long as it's not for a Democrat or Republican candidate. I'd recommend however, that you find someone you trust with your children's well being and petition to get them on a ballot. Then, go out and tell everyone why you want that person in office. Ask them to tell people why they think it's a good idea too! Do this with as many offices as there are people that you trust! Ask other people to find trustworthy people and do the same. Warn them that people are going to smear your candidate to protect themselves. Teach them why voting main stream is bad. Quote Socrates and show them how ignoring his words have caused us to get to where we are today.
I get that it's not easy to realize that you _can_ make change. It's especially frightening since propaganda has told you how scary the world is when someone is not making choices for you. I can assure you that your fear is unwarranted, making choices and directing change is fulfilling to say the least.
they are so entrenched and they have EVERY PART of the system working for them
As others have mentioned, you must start somewhere to start making change. Giving up never makes anything better. Start small, like City and State offices. Then move up and replace Congress and Senators. Look at it from a different perspective (though this is a leap from defeatism) and recognize that more people to replace makes any place you start a personal victory.
Stop whining and take action. Of course nothing changes while you claim defeat and do nothing. Grow a pair already! Yes it is going to take hard work to force change. You will have to talk to people, petition, and vote.
The point I was making is similar to your example. We can look at the philosophy and say "that is good" and "that is bad". The problems we see today are the same we have throughout history. The people in power believe in Aristotle's warped views, and Macchiavelli's disgusting views, and ruin society for personal gain (ruin being a long term result, but apparent to anyone looking at what happens.). Meanwhile, the citizens are kept ignorant to other Philosophies believing that what they are given by people in power is the only way society works.
It's up to us, the people not in power, to teach others the better Philosophies for society, as an elite won't do that. Quite frankly, the way the US was founded in theory was nearly identical to Socrates' description of a Republic. Slavery and Gender equality were very different, but the rest was done so well that adaptation to equality was not a difficult transition though it did take time.
My goal is, and has been for about 20 years, to get people to read and understand Plato's "The Republic". It's not easy, but I'd say I get a person a week to read at least a few critical chapters. Maybe once a month I get someone to purchase the book. If more of us did this, we would be able to change and adapt to a much better society.
The inventor of the Republic wisely stated "The success of the Republic requires that the citizens are highly educated." and "In order for a Republic to succeed a Political class of citizens must be guarded against.". I'm not sure why you would promote a book that was either satire against self proclaimed nobles abusing citizens or a lesson book for abuse, over "The Republic".
Simply because something was written should not mean it has to match reality. Pardon me for an abrupt departure, those pesky Hobbits are digging up my carrots again.
An interesting tidbit about is that on immigration tests, immigrants are taught that the US is made up of a 2 party system called Democrat and Republican. They teach this to kids in school as well.
I can't say I agree with your last point totally, since we have yet to test it. People need to be made aware of corrupt media and taught to get other candidates with high morals on ballots and not simply accept what they are given. That awakening is happening, and of course it may be too late. We have not proven that it is too late, so I have a bit of hope (not much mind you).
Start talking to people and educating them, that is our way out. Show them the way, and have them educate others. If we don't, the only chance for being free comes from a nasty and bloody revolt.
I don't agree that it's a boogeyman. I'd agree that there are many distractions to deal with driving, all of which should be manageable. Some things are simply not manageable and should not be put where the driver can be distracted. To me, it's kind of like when the larger vehicles came out with TVs in the back seat. The noise may be distracting to the driver, but the visual distraction was out of the way. The HUD features would be more like putting the TV in view of the driver.
Distracting visuals are very different from audible distractions when it comes to a task that requires hand to eye coordination.
You are confusing public speaking with marketing. A politician should be able to voice his concerns to the people, and the people should agree with them in their suggestions for remedy and changes. Marketing is about creating excitement based on extraneous information that has little to nothing to do with the product.
If you described a hamburger using just the ingredients, how many people would buy it? If you add pretty girls in skimpy outfits and handsome muscular men saying "mmm" in a sensual way with neon light placement and fake hamburgers that look nothing like the actual product, what happens?
We know that marketing works, but when it comes to politicians fake people do not tend to look out for the best interests of society.
Fair point, but in my defense they specifically mentioned HP-UX. Solaris x86 was interesting exception to the rules.
The attempt to find molecular basis I have disputed for two reasons. I'm sure an MD can do a better job of it, and I will be discussing this issue with friends and become more familiar with it.

By fuse are you thinking hammer and glue? That would be "cold fusion" if I'm not mistaken! :)
