For me Q3 restored that feeling of roaming the map areas on an elastic string... a certain snappiness of response, balance of speed of player movement and gameplay etc. that really gave a pleasurable multi-player experience. Like the first time my brother-in-law and I played Doom2 on new P-133 machines. Q1 and Q2 did not quite have it.

That seems to be the problem... People who play PC games tend to have a Wintel box for broadest choice of titles and the best performance from those titles. (Even when they use Linux for nearly everything else.) The Linux game releases are only attractive to those without a Wintel box, or those buying for political reasons. Chicken and egg problem that creates an activation energy barrier for igniting game performance development on Linux...

Yeah, man. It becomes increasingly important to treat the body well as years pass. Our bodies are not thinking machines, they're still focused on working as mechanical engines, our chosen lifestyles notwithstanding. So much is about balance and variety... you neither want to burn out mentally nor atrophy. At least it isn't professional sports. :)

Your fourth point is very relevant. If you desire greater compensation/job security, you need to focus on the things you can bring to the table that a "commodity" IT worker cannot. The geography advantage of being on the spot in the U.S. is nearly useless unless you choose to take advantage of it.

Methinks the threat to turn to Microsoft might be a bit empty. IIRC the last time that he dealt with Microsoft, he licensed them V4 of the player about a week prior to releasing V5 with protocol updates that made V4 nearly obsolete. Pissed them off pretty good.

Sort of... but how many people here actually sit and watch television as an activity without any sort of multi-tasking? My television is on much of the time that I'm at home, but never, with the exception of a few sporting events, is watching it my sole activity for any period of time.
