I'm no appologist for the Chinese government, they've done very brutal things. However, think before you defend Tibet so strongly. Tibet if freed would become a theocracy run by an elite group of people. The rest are expected to serve. How exactly is that any better then China. The government of Tibet wouldn't be as violent as China maybe, but the people would still not be free. Many people seem to thing that budhism is a special case in religion, that it isn't controlling or manipulative or repressive. History makes it very clear that this "special case" is not so special at all. Same shit different package.
You don't need a support system to be straight because the world is your support system. Nearly everything you see in culture around you affirms your heterosexuality. If you where the minority I think you would feel very different about this issue.
I never said anything about masturbation being rooted in addiction. I masturbate but I don't think I'm addicted and I have as normal of a sex life as possible (given normal is subjective). Masturbation is a perfectly natural thing to do for men and women. Of course one could become addicted to masturbation just like anything else however, I never claimed it is done out of addiction. I have never met a woman that thinks men would stop masturbating if they found the right woman. Most women I know, including my wife, think men masturbate constantly when ever they are alone. Of course some women may use the masturbation stereotype to comfort themselves, that's what stereotypes are usually used for in the first place.
You fail to recognise that almost all addiction springs from some sort of depression, self worth or external control issues. People don't tend to get addicted to things when they feel satisfied with life (not that there are many people that fit into this catagory.) To equate your lesbian stereotype with addiction filling a whole in ones life is ridiculous. The addiction comment wasn't directed at men, it was in reference to all people and is generaly considered a truism. Your lesbian stereotype is a concept some men came up with to comfort themselves. Your view on the matter leads me to believe you have some sexism issues to deal with.
Having lived in Canada all my life I can say with complete certainty that half of the TV stations I recieve are American. This is on ExpressVu, and it is no different on any other service. The only caveat being that we see canadian comercials on them. Go buy a magazine, almost all of them a American, the Canadian editions of American magazines are a joke, maybe one article or editorial on the "Canadian" view and lots of Canadian ads. So what culture do you think we are trying to protect? Corporate culture and advertising! So we have CanCon rules and what not but they're a joke (I mean does anyone really think Celine Dion or Shania Twain counts). Besides most American music sucks anyways so it just protects us from crap!
Have you ever been to canada. I live here. I've been very active in political activism and will be the first to complain about many of the injustices my government has been attached to. However, I would argue that freespeech is one thing I've had little to complain about. Enter a canadian university's politics department and you are as likely to be taught about marxist analysis of economy as you are laisez-faire economics. And as for us being restricted access to foriegn media that's a load of shit! Most popular tv shows here are american. We get all the major american networks (NBC,FOX,CBS,ABC,UPN, even PBS). I regulary by British music magazines as well as the guardian newspaper. There are USA today vending machines in a few places that I've seen and most major US papers are available as well as one from across the globe. So how exactly am I repressed anymore than the average westerner?

The Sega Genesis had a headphone jack.
