  1. Maybe it's pressure? on 95% of IT Projects Not Delivered On Time · · Score: 1
    1. --experience--
      • based on 5 years experience in my own company, all projects I need to deliver, mostly based on webprogramming (perl, c, python, php) just take (lots of) time to finish...

      • There are 2 different zones, a zone technical and a zone marketing/customer relations. These zones seem to be having a left and a right wing.

    2. --learning curve--
It's a know-your-newest specifications; to stay in trend with the latest technology...

It's a learning curve, you need to learn the language while working in it, examples do it, tryouts do it, learning the basics of script programming and security (which they do not teach at schools?!?). I am referring to buggy perl scripts that are on the net...

    3. --visual-editing-trend--
I see the trend "in Dreamweaver you can make a site in a week" thing, so the layout gets made, it gets imported, converted to sleazy html, which could be optimized to html4 in no time.

This makes the people that try to follow the standards look awfull, because the "visuals(1)" are the same but the underlying code is crappy. Dreamweaver outputs code that's sometimes completely off the standards; contains buggy java script code crashing out Firefox -> and it gets mostly delivered like that to the customer.

      (1) The visual thing is there - "marketing" would be happy, the customer paid and there-u-go!

    4. --standards--
Standards are nice to get to, because you are sure it works when it needs to work with full coverage...

    5. --html editors--

      1. The problem is the good use of html editors that don't f*ck up the code, that leave it as it so a user, who doesn't know html can edits their sites.. Editplus we recommend for it (by personal experience) but it's still not visual enough for most people ... Maybe they exist? where are thou?

      2. Don't shoot marketing, but marketing, listen to the engineer!

Don't shoot the pianist, but pianist, listen to the sheet-of-music u got!

      3. The time such engineer, programmer and network (the systems are the network) administrator spends daily is never valued. System administration day my ass... I didn't went to holidays in 5 years long...

      4. 3 months mean 3 months and not 1 month...

      5. 1 year means 1 year and not 2 months ...

      6. It's definitely the bad karma U get from someone who wants to see a flow, and the programmer that needs to break (own) standards because of that flow that needs going on ...

      7. It's the pressure you get, the daily job, it's nice to do but let us to it on a normal way and not in a rush?
      8. It's not only the pressure, but the overpressure, once you get the pressure to change your habits to a fast economic standard, you will deliver more quanity and less quality.

Coding by hand is less fast than using Dreamweaver, but, there are middle-ways like using Dreamweaver as basic and optimizing/tainting/cleaning out the code by hand afterwards ...

Those things take time, if you would need three months for a project it means setup time, work time and ending time; the ending time are te finishing touches a painter does to his painting, the ending of a book and the ending of a movie; just the same with such projects...

Well, I am Belgian too and got to say I do not like a private company known not to be able to protect their own products to be making our PRIVATE ID cards containing our private information.

Next to that, it shouldn't be a verification for MSN services; rather the ID card should be having the ability to have a system like "adultpass", which should be ran by the government; to protect minors from entering the Belgian MSN chatsites. This to protect our data from hacks later on.

Currently no-one can have my information; because it is fully private: my "staatsregisternummer" (in english this is the state registration number, based on your birthdate and a random number) and my identity card number will never get read except by health-services, my bank and the cops/government. Very sometimes when someone asks a copy of my identity card I give my drivers license because I do not like to give all my information to a company; which I do not know what they DO with that information afterwards.

I don't want that number to travel over the Internet or to be used in MSN or Passport. Sure not with the reputation of their security.

Currently we got a SIS card, which contains information required by our health services to be paid back a huge amount of our costs; why should Microsoft be able, to access these records, as private company? Since that SIS card (with smart chip) will probably be thrown out whenever this eID comes out...

It's a good thing this eID is coming, but I find it a very bad thing it will be centralized and depending on Microsoft; They simply do not have my trust.

These copyprotections are taking more time than I have; to be even more specific, certain CD's like Solid Sounds I need to rip manually to be able to USE this CD in my older car cd player and pro Denon DJ CD player!!! Since I am DJ and using vinyl and CD's a lot I find this unacceptable. Put in this pro-DJ player and you got to wait up to 6 minutes before the CD *might* get read; which is too long for a clubDJ to mix to the next song; unless I have a 8-10 minute song running from vinyl...

Is this copyprotection a convenience only for the record company or should the audio CD be a convenience for the listener? Where's the time you put in the CD in your favorite cd player you like to listen to the music you like ? The time of putting your cd in your car cdplayer, cd-rom drive or professional CD player is over and it's only getting worse, looking to this example of the latest CD I tried to rip for my friend.

And this is not even the end, my soulmate has bought 2 other CD's, which one of them is the new Faithless CD (the other one I can't remember because we have a different taste (and yet the same) of music) and he can't rip it to use on his MP3 player *and* he can't use it on his home CD player (unreadable disks).

I used to buy 2 to 5 cd's a month, since I am not sure anymore which cd's work or not I started buying more vinyl again, but hell, I do not want to buy ANY releases of the same producers that cripple the audio CD's I have bought for 20 EURO or more!

The recording industry has lost at least 600 EURO last year only because I do not want to buy or use cd's anymore.. what's the use to buy a cd if I can't use it?

I have built up a nice record collection of +30000 vinyl records and +2000 cd's. Probably the collection of my cd's will not be updated anymore as I protest to this kind of behavior towards the consumer. I currently have about 62 cd's of the last 2 years that I cannot use at all unless I rip it and copy it. This is about 1200 EURO/$ I have lost because I cannot use them as DJ.
