Based on the almost-crippling traffic that occurs (even with mirrors) when a distributor releases a patch and/or a mod off of the official site, this makes sense. However I'd also argue that they may want to extend to additional file sharing applications to maximize the distribution.
Definatly - actually, I'm an IDGA member and there's been several research papers devoted to "gender bending" in games. I play a girl (I am a girl) yet I know a lot of men who play girls as well.
You're both absolutly right - and to point to other recent remakes (particularly the Dick books), based on the quantity of assorted P.K. Dick stories, etc, flowing through my local library, Minority Report led people to his work as well.
I'm tired of Cruise in the "Sci Fi Author of the Week" movies (Dick, now Wells...seems like he's sad he missed out on the LOTR train), and am LESS likely (lets face it - totally unlikely to go) due to his involvement more than Speilberg. But the combo, like you said in Minotiry Report, is sort of scarey.
I actually brought this up in an earier post I made today - specifically citing Morrowind as the only example of an RPG I've played where I've been "flirted" with by in-game characters. (This is totally not withstanding the almost-creepy module my SO made with a characters named after me in her underpants saying ridiculous things). In NWN, I was pretty shocked that male PCs get asked out and flirted with, but the female PCs I played with (in the original version) were almost "gender neutral."
God, if it worked like that, there'd be a lot happier people out there.
Then again, I think that same-sex relationships in games like TOEE and other RPG games differ from "real life" simulation games, in that they have to be written into the story. In that sense, relationships (and/or flirting) overall differs in RPGS - as I always play as a female, the only time I ever got hit on was in Morrowind. But my boyfriend, who always plays as male, got hit on and made dates with tons of AI "girls' in both Morrowind and NWN. Go fig.
