MS at the begining of the internet was not aware, was not even worried.
They were severals months later, maybe a couple of years.
They were so later, that some guys could build yahoo without MS, and some others could build google, ebay, amazon, etc.
If MS had been aware, they could today be the owners of all of that.
But... we already know what happened.
The problem is not on computers, the problem is on the methods that are used in education.
Today we have access to information that we did not have before, nevertheless the study methods continue being the same.
Still don't get it.
I think you are wrong, but I am not an expert... I am not talking about marketing or pricing (maybe the cooper owner don't want to market such a service) I am talking about "last mile" possibilities.
They CAN offer the same with symetrical DSL, the same service level agreement, the same constant 1.5 up and down guaranteed, the voice lines, and the 16 different public IP addresses.
Am I wrong?
Hey it's $250 of investment per customer, not that bad !!!
I don't know if MS will succed with this, but SBC will have a lot of fiber out there, only for $250 per house.
This is what they are saying: "OpenOffice is enough for you", with that paper they are confirming that.
Seriously, I don't understand your complaints this is really good for OpenOffice.
But remember the Netscape vs. IE. Al last IE got the market. Not a good product but has more than 85% share.
Could MS do the same with Zune?
Oh, it's meant to be a desktop plataform .. KDE then? Gnome?

I think that Roland Piquepaille's biz is entirely legitimate.
His job is to research the web for people who do not have the time to do it, and he is getting $600 for his job.
What's wrong with that?
Ok, he didn't give credits before, but now he do.
So, don't bother him.
It's a differente story the issue about slashdot posting.

We need to develop new ways.
We have tons of information available, but teachers still don't know how to manage this in the learning experience.
Besides, the other new thing we have now, is easy and fast publishing tools, so they can create a lot of teaching material.
Of course, it's not so bad, this is going to happen in a the following years.
