It turns out that you are eventually responsible for anything that passes over your connection.
Oh yeah, and if you are, perchance, dealing with any personal information: banking info, credit cards or whatnot and some malicious user is watching your traffic, and can read that traffic, you are up a certain creek without a certain paddle.
And I quote "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."
But I also remind you that, if it were not for the legislation that you so inexpertly and profanely protest, which incidentally is your legal right, we might very well see a complete mindrape of the American people, who for starters aren't much of the independent thinker, for the most part (MTV is not a responsible parent, people, though I hope I'm preaching to the choir here); American parenting is negligent, if not downright maliciously incompetent, as well as a host of other problems. Here, we pay more attention to American Idol than World Affairs, American Idol actually makes the news... ANd you don't think we need a little guidance???? I don't agree with censorship for the most part, but for all it matters, television is all but devoid of any useful value, it has nearly no educational value and serves simply to turn the next generation into ritalin-addicted, culturally starved and generally deficient slaves of the advertising world, putting us on about the same level as Haiti, as far as an educated population. This is a country where 2.5% of the population as a whole (concentrated in some areas) are functionally illiterate... Why? Because our brains are sucked into TVs. And you complain about freedom of speech.... You should be slapped with a wet noodle. Twice.
I, myself, am fairly newbieish (a couple of years using linux, certainly no toothy, beared old UNIX veteran); but I found Gentoo, contingent upon RTFM and a little ingenuity, to be the easiest to fully install. When I use the term fully install, I mean install, finalize and gain complete control over.
Things that could use improvement:
1) Fonts
2) Stupid, Bloody X configuration. Should be in Installation Docs not Desktop section. Many hours of frustration.

You're right and you're wrong. The FCC prohibits the banning of devices with antennae less than 1 foot in length, but U of T is in the right, because they can indeed prevent you from hooking it up to their network (potentially extended to POTS network, if you were to try and use dial up). The latter is entirely within their rights as a provider, and could very well be with good reason, given the fact that any yahoo with a few bucks can buy an AP, (mis) configure it and leave your network more open to unauthorized access than a stripper at a sleazy bar at happy hour.
Anyone who has researched Social Engineering has read Kevin Mitnicks (rather verbose, but nonetheless interesting book) where he discusses falsified Caller-ID. This idea isn't new, or even technically innovative, the Caller ID (not quite sure of the technical name for the field) field can be spoofed on any PRI line. Although, for those "social engineers" (read con-men) who aren't technically adept to scam the masses (or obtain information, of course). A pity that this will throw systems like Asterix (asterix.org) into a negative light.
Is to be able to search by DL ID#... now wouldn't that be a rush?
Seriously, this simple, intuitive information aggregator has become so ingrained in our society that it even has a dictionary reference....

With all due respect, Europeans, especially the French and the Brits consider family noteworthiness one of the discerning factors of an individual. Outmoded? Potentially, but is still a de facto modus operandi
