On the one hand, the company would wish to make a good product so that more people are using it (and potentially purchasing support). On the other hand, the company has less incentive to make the product easier to use - since the more intuitive it is, the less is the demand for support (resulting in lower revenues).
Interestong point, but from what I've seen and experienced, applications that Miguel has been involved in have been mostly bug-free and don't have much of a learning curve. You yalk about the average user- and yeah, I agree, I've never spent a dime personally on support for an application for home use- but in the workplace I sure as hell have. So, let's see- the education system in the country of mexico, burlington coat factory, home depot, etc.... See what I'm saying? This company will have no problem whatsoever obtaining support contracts for superb software
Aha! An automated complaint! That crony thing gives it all away- as kickass as that script is the crony makes it reek of itself. That said, the WTO is _evil_ and to that guy that posted earlier about what a bummer day he will have crossing the line of protest to get to work in Seattle- BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAA! Peace
There is more than e-commerce law at stake here. The WTO also rules on patent and intellectual property law. Take a look at a list of financial supporters for the upcoming meeting in Seattle, and do a little research.

There is a bunch of information at this site and many others regarding the WTO and why there is a formidable protest being organised for the meeting in Seattle. Some folks down here in Dallas are organizing a demonstration to show solidarity with the Seattle protesters, we are few, but if you're interested and in Dallas, swing by the bulletin board at this site and hook up with us. It'd be great to see some people in different cities doing the same if they are unable to get to seattle.
the real question is... can you you suck your own cock in a consistent, yet enjoyable manner? If you don't happen to have male gentalia, have you ever pondered this possibility? And do you have a maxim? Ah-ha.. And most of all, how do you feel about all these stock tips you've been flipping around like harmlesss chinese throwing stars... I am obviously a jerk...
You forgot their chat client! that comic strip thing has to be one of the grandest contributions to mankind i have yet seen. We wouldn't have jerkcity without it, after all...

Moderate this down as off-topic if you feel like it, but I just wanted to say this has been some of the most fascinating discussion I've seen on Slashdot. Good stuff.
Levy does a great job in painting what Hackers are (or were) in this book. I really like his stuff on Gosper and Greenblatt and the imagery I get of those guys messing with and pushing the old pdp machines. Are punch card data entry machines still in use anywhere today? Good to see this review.
Ummm... they are giving the applications away and selling support.
Best wishes to Miguel, Nat and anyone else involved...

HA! Dallas, actually, so I am familiar with what you're talking about. I should have said 'driving in the top 10 percentile of idiots.'
Yeah, I know, offtopic, but every time I see someone driving like an idiot these days it seems like they're jabbering on the phone. Every time.
Are you aware of any of the royal family who use linux, or maybe have some real hacking abilities?

wow, this could be a very cool way to deliver sydicated content to radio stations.
