Reading a web site is one thing, short articles are fine. Plus there is a community who constantly beat on each other.. err.. discuss issues.

More talking about lengthy books. I can only sit in a computer chair for so long... hmm maybe I need one of those badass office chairs at home.

E-books fail for me because I would rather read somewhere else than infront of my computer screen.

I spend all day at work in front of this screen, why would I want to read a book on it when I can sit in a nice relaxing place without fans humming away or a CRT brightly lit in my face..

no matter how you slice it, its still code executing on your computer without your permission and That's a virus.

As a usually security minded person, I do what I can to keep my system up to date and to keep any non-requested traffic off my network. So.. most of these "white knight" viruses wont even get to my computer. Im sure most /. readers fall into this category as well.

As for the general public, These could be used for good.. but there is much more potential for evil, as is usual with situations like this.

"Hey, Im a program that unknown to you got onto your computer.. My intentions are good, I promise... You should click yes to fix the security hole that I got in through and distribute me to all your friends"(muahahaha)

oh trust me, ive experienced a lot of the rest of the IT world, heck I used to run linux on one of my home PCs from 96-99, I use Macs too... What I meant was that all of my enterprise level programming is NOW done on MS platforms. I agree they make some bad stuff, but no reason for all the constant bashing on here.. It;s like everyone just loves to hate.

  7. Hydrogen / electrical production instead on Renewable Energy From Algae? · · Score: 2, Informative

There is actually another way scientists have found to use algae to produce hydrogen and oxygen.
Since the algae can survive as something as small as a single cell, it can thrive on simply sunlight and water algae def . When photosynthesis occurs the algae uses sunlight energy to break down the water into hydrogen and oxygen. The Hydrogen and Oxygen can then be captured and used to create fuel cells... When H and O are combined back together inside the fuel cell it creates water and a significant amount of energy how fuel cells work

i think this is a much better alternative than just burning up another resource.. why not just RE USE it.

I read slashdot all the time, Im a Windows user and all of the software I write is for Windows / MS environments. I'm a little sick of all the bashing MS takes. They have made leaps and bounds in operating system stability over the past few years, and if the people who used their systems actually kept them up to date, most of the problems (virii / worms) that all of you people scream about wouldnt be happening.

well, the market is saturated, yes... but not with GOOD programmers.

(puts on ego suit) I came into a company a year ago getting paid about what we have seen here so far, I thought okay the benefits are good, so Ill stick around. turns out, every person that I work with is absolutely stupid. Our "SQL guru" didnt even know what a Left Outer Join was..

I soon realized that the market wasnt flooded with programmers, the market was flooded with PEOPLE THAT THOUGHT THEY COULD MAKE A LOT OF MONEY AS PROGRAMMERS.

as someone stated earlier, it takes a lot more than just a few classes in CS to be a good programmer, you have to have the mind of a coder, you have to be able to look at things differently.. JUst knowing a language is not enough.

btw, if you are GOOD coming out of college, and by GOOD i mean you can sit down and write on an enterprise level application, and you can PROVE that you can do it and produce nice results quickly, you should do well.

if you have 0 work experience, and have just gone to school, gotten your degree... dont expect more than 35k.

I am a current owner of this "switchable" software and can verify that the cruise control works just fine with it. As for the horsepower gains, with a turbocharged car it is very significant. I go from 12psi to 20psi of boost when I switch from stock mode to the 93 octane mode. To comment on the engine wear babble, there are plenty of cars with my motor, running with my exact software that are lasting longer than their stock counterparts. It all depends on how well the motor is built to begin with.
