Yup, and any idiot can program, too! If you don't believe it, just run Windows!
While you are right, that with modern digital cameras almost anyone can get good pictures on occasion, the professional gets good pictures on demand, even under very adverse conditions. To do so requires expensive equipment and years of experience. And the image process isn't instantly complete when the shutter is pressed... there is significant post processing.
OTOH, I guess one could say, "Any idiot can paint. You just dab a bunch of color on a canvas!" "Any idiot can practice medicine, you just prescribe a bunch of pills from a book." "Any idiot can comment on/.... just look!"
I am one of those professional photographers who has submitted some images to Wikipedia. I did so with attribution required. Shortly after I submitted my images, they were deleted and then resubmitted without any restrictions... remember, anybody can edit anything! Many of my images, such as those of Taylor Swift are spread all over the internet and most have no attribution. I can't afford to get nothing for my work... my cameras, computers, printers, everything has to be paid for as well as my mortgage and health insurance. Rather than fight it over and over I simply stopped submitting images. The only ones I submit now have big logos on them... and many of those are then edited to remove the logos.
I lived the Washington, D. C. area forty to fifty years ago. At one time the CIA was located in an old beer brewery building downtown. Later they moved out of town and while I can't remember the name of the road, the entrance was in fact marked as a maintenance road. "Everybody" knew what the road really was. Years later there were newspaper articles about it and how the location was selected so no one had a clear view of any windows. In those days much was "security by obscurity".
The value of REXX was as an alternative to EXEC2 which was all that was available in CMS prior to REXX. I'm not sure all this talk about functions and scope is terrifically important in a scripting language but to each his own. There was also a marvelous add-on for REXX, PIPES, with lots of superb prebuilt functions... after all, CMS under VM was a mainframe system, not *NIX with lots of little programs lying around nor the inherent ability to pipe. I guess I'm just old and able to put things into perspective.
This is my first reply at/. I hope that Nathan and his Dad are real. I have been a programmer for the University of California for over 25 years. During my first marriage when my son was around 13 he was heavily into MUDs. When dinnertime came and he was called, it would take him 30-45 minutes to show up. His mother and I were less than pleased. To be more involved with him, I finally tried MUDding. From then on, when his mother called us for dinner it would take us both about 30-45 minutes to put weapons and treasure in safe places, advise our cohorts we were leaving and ensure they were safe without our presence, etc., etc. The wife finally divorced me but I will always treasure those times with my son, particularly when others on our favorite MUD found out that we were father/son, the 40 years difference in our ages, and were sincerely jealous of our relationship. I was blessed in those days. I am now 58 with a new wife and a 2-1/2 year old daughter who already has her own computer!!!
