The above needs to be modded out, it contains words that, even though the internet is a non-filtered uncensored network, is just a bit innapropriate....
People like me are killing ham radio? Just because i dont care about cell phones enough to know what kind of transmission mode they use does not mean that i am killing amateur radio. Maybe you ought to stop and think that not every amateur operator reads every single peice of RF-Related media that comes along, even though we obviously are interested in it. People supporting BPL are killing ham radio, people like the guys that talk on 75 meters and cuss up a storm are killing ham radio.... but i sir, am definitely not killing ham radio.

This reminds me of people in the ham radio community that do extremely low-wattage radio contacting, also known as running "QRP". One major difference, whilst you might be able to hear morse code decently at 2 watts, across the ocean and down the continent from another person, I doubt that a complicated hiss of an internet connection could be sustained using near noise-level strength signals. I mean, what kind of bandwidth are we talking about here? With all the packets that would be dropped, and resent, it'd be like surfing the internet on your TRS-80.. but i guess if you're like my friend "slow is a whole lot better than full stop". So i guess frustration is easier than being calm and being able to do what you expect on your connection. Oh well!
It just doesnt seem like this will go anywhere.
Thought i'd add my $00.02

Yes sir. that is VERY true. get there early, and unless you're walking, dont think about going anywhere. If you make it to spaceview park, look for people in green shirts with white letters on them.. The acne ridden fat guy will be me, i'd be very happy to meet you!

if you'd like to see the launch from the ground, get here a couple hours ahead... i suggest stopping at my workplace (Krystal) and grabbing some burgers to whittle the time away. If you go to the right place, there might even be someone with a direct link to the count down.
Hope to see you, and good luck!

Well now, she makes chicken salad, and i would say that you want to go anywhere from Titusville to Merrit island..... just go up and down US-1... if you want to see ME, well.. go to spaceview park, i'll be one of the ones with the Cheshire Catalyst walking around in green shirts with official looking names and what-not on them. Hope to see all of you in town to watch this! And if people need places to stay..... i guess i'd be willing to give up my bed for a night and sleep in the living room, even though the house is already over-filled..:)
Basically, its come to somewhere nearby, and watch. If you dont want to spend a whole lot of time or money, i suggest Titusville (where I live) This place is right across the Indian River Lagoon from the Island NASA is on. There are many parks, and space-related memorial sites to view the launch from. While you're here, you can also visit the Space Museum, and take a trip out to the KSC Visitor's Center for a day.

Since we've got a Shuttle launch post here on slashdot, i think its time to show you the Cheshire Catalyst's Space/Launch stuff that pertains to this.

Once, while in my PC Support class in HS, we got ahold of a "new" cyrix machine with a 133mhz prosc. Well, for some reason, the prosc wasnt mounted inside, it was in a bag. So, I took it out, and stuck it in the socket..... the wrong way. A black peice of metal near the prosc shot out a stream of white smoke and the machine shut down, only to continue to stream smoke.
Pretty damned stupid, i should have RTFM
Wow, that's interesting... I live north of you a bit. I NEVER thought about talking to my library directory (North Brevard Public Library in Titusville)
Good idea!
