Personally, I am becoming tired of the Google blanket, that has all the 'geeks' blind, and less competition and more google-takeovers.
I would like another company come out of 'nowhere' and complete with google, just as they did several years ago.
In regards to the text-ads, I'm also suprised by the 'lemming-like' eagerness of many privacy-conscious geeks in signing up ( as others have mentioned ).
Sure, the Google brand is great, but if Gmail was launched by M$ for example ( with the same interface/features ) , we would all be flamming how poor the service is.
Do I sense a blinded following for anything google related?

Gmail Adds Features
·
· Score: 1, Interesting
>1. Text-based ads instead of graphics or flash
Targeted ads that read my messages, gee, what a great *feature* !
>2. No taglines. Very nice if you want to send out professional emails.
No taglines as of yet. However, this still does not impress me as a 'feature'
>3. Excellent spam filter
Which free-mail services don't use Spamassassin?
>4. FAST CSS (might be wrong about that) interface.
Gmail uses Javascript to render most of the interface with XML for the message/content. Sure, the interface is light-weight, but all these 'new' features Gmail releases, have been around with other WebMail clients for a long time
e.g , Wow, Gmail adds a search feature to the addressbook! A new 'save' draft feature, OMG, isn't this unique?;)
>5. Google search built right into your email inbox, archive, etc
The search feature is probably the only feature that's a bonus on Gmail. Apart from that, I'm unimpressed by the entire Gmail 'hype'
-
Just in summary, for those people that don't have a Gmail account, don't hold your breath, it ain't that exciting!
Over all the fuss of GMail, I am actually very un-impressed by the Webmail interface google offers.
If it was not for the 1GB of storage, I would rank gmail far behind a lot of other Webmail applications.
A growing number of providers are offering 1GB+ accounts, so what does GMail have to offer others don't?
I doubt very much gmail will open up with POP3/IMAP access - If they do it certainly will not be free.
My summary, damm google has good marketing for gmail, but it's not that good!
Hello,
Speaking from someone who has just visited the Middle-East, Yemen in particular, there is a lot of negative tension been focused towards anything American. This is a major war of the minds and hearts of people who live in the region.
Don't walk down the street in Sanna, Yemen as an American, you won't last long!
How long until the laser-guided bombs, cruise missiles, and unmanned 'fighter' craft will be powered by embeded Linux?
How I'd like to see someone use these against the usa;-)

Is anyone tired of reading slashdot with all the google press-releases? It's been like this for a couple of days now.
;)
We need focus on another search-company to compete with google; these guys have had to spotlight for far too long!
Why are all these nerds turned into blind google zombies?
I'm starting to become very tired of reading Slashdot with Google-press releases.
I welcome the idea of another search-company coming out of nowhere ( just like google did ) and taking the market by storm.
Google has had the spotlight for far too long, and the recent IPO gives me a bad feeling where Google is headed by the investors interests.
Check @Mail , its one of the best Webmail applications IMHO. Beats the pants off gmail, thats for sure!
