    The RAMP project's hardware would be a good place to start. They have 105 FPGAs per rack. There's enough FPGA-space in each rack to simulate 1008 general purpose CPUs.

    Inode-level operations would make inode number reuse inconsistent:

    <user a> getinode(/foo/bar) => 100
    <user b> rm /foo/bar
    <user b> touch /baz/quux
    <user a> openbyinode(100) => /baz/quux

    The solution, not reusing inode numbers, would cause filesystems to have finite lifetimes.

  7. Re:Sun Rays on Thin Client Solutions For Libraries? · · Score: 1

    I worked in a SunRay office environment. They were very quick, faster than my home PC.

    Some things I noticed about the setup:

    1. They were on a 100mbps switched network. The switch(es) had gigabit uplink to the sunray server.
    2. The sunray server had something like 100gb of swap available. I presume this was to allow dormant sessions to pile up without becoming a problem.
