I actually have to disagree with this for some instances. In my case, I'm not interested in anything my parents ever did, and they took little interest in the things I did (ie: music, computers, photography, etc) while growing up. Kids will become what they want to become. As a parent, you should give them as many options as you can. Balance life. If they want to watch tv or play video games, tell them they need to read or play outside for an equal amount of time. Give them a chance to explore their talents by offering music or sports lessons. Always encourage an interest.
Some children do end up enjoying the same things as their parents, but it really depends on how involved those parents are. Taking an active interest in your child will ensure they are healthy and happy, no matter how much or how little technology is in their life.
The problem is not that we girls don't want to be there, it's that you all get really frustrated trying to teach us when we want to learn! I have yet to attend a LAN party simply because I haven't got a clue how to play any of these games. Anyone like to teach me? =)
Your kid(s) will be into whatever you're into.

These, and a GPS device for geocaching. Find what you're looking for with the GPS and log it after finding a wireless signal with the WiFi Detector.
