OK, here we go again, Linux for PPC, for x86, for 64-bit processors, for Alpha etc.
Can someone please answer me this: WHEN are we going to see a decent Linux distribution for SPARC machines (Ultra 10s and the like)??? It's like platform support for SPARC is dead or something and everyone keeps bringing out more and more distributions for PPC just because it's cool (?) to do so...
Or is there even a remote possiblity that a *BSD will do equally well on a SPARC machine, as to render Linux redundant?
Hardwar is what you're probably looking for. It's like WCPRIV in real 3D. The game was pretty much an underdog (you can find it at The Home of the Underdogs), but gives you complete freedom.
You start off with a ship and you follow the storyline as long as you find it interesting. Then, at any point you can just ignore the key missions and wander around the gamespace (Titan), hunting for bounty, trading stuff, creating your own industries, and what's more, you can save anytime and come back later to evolve the character you play.
4) and it's like... twice the price of my TV! geez... fuck, i might as well write an app for my palm to control the TV via the infrared port. Heck it might be cheaper too...
Oh come on, give me a break... Sure they can be used for something else, in the same way that you can save any file you want on the iPod, but how many students are really going to use it that way?
WOW! Audio files that aren't music on my iPod. w00t!
OK, so I was wrong speaking about a "crowd". But even then, I would expect that the "other half" (the paranoid ones) would have rung some real alarm bells because of blogging instead of making +5, Funny posts about LiveJournal all the time:-/ (which are funny indeed)
It's amazing that the Slashdot crowd can't make up its mind about privacy.
First people start complaining about the loss of privacy because of RFID tags etc and then all of a sudden a whole discussion springs on the "amazing" possibility to subsidize part of your life to the Internet, invading your own privacy by thoroughly documenting any personal info/thoughts/opinions you own.
I don't mean to say that blogging is "evil", but think about the possible abuse! Think of the scenario that a future employer might stumble among loads of pages full of pathetic babble...
And now able to include pictures as well! Way to go...
Actually, I haven't been very impressed by the whole swapping thing under Linux lately. I'm running 2.4.22 with a 400MB swapfile.
Some apps _can_ make the system unresponsive enough to ignore keystrokes, which is *very* annoying. At other times, xmms will stop playing while the disk goes crazy... Switching from emacs to Firefox after 10 minutes usually takes an extra 5 seconds to redraw the window and load all the stuff again.
Running GNOME2 on this laptop is also quite noisy on the disk. It swaps all the time...
Ooooooohhh... impressive! A chassis with tape rollers that climbs up a tape!!! AMAZING
but I bet many slashdotters are self-sufficient.

Because in that case, it must have a kick-ass budget.

Just my 0.02 EUR.
I guess the "Everybody is copying Apple" meme is true then...

"the review paints a pretty grim picture of this unit, and appears to put part of the blame on its Linux-based OS and software."
And for this, fellow Slashdotters, he MUST BE PUNISHED!!! ARRRGHHHH! MAN THE STOCKADE!

You must be proud of your "offspring".

I still haven't got 2.6.4-ck2 to boot on my Thinkpad with framebuffer and other crucial stuff though, so I'll pass...
