Hasn't AOL already been sued for their unwillingness to cancel accounts?
When my father died, I had to argue with the rep about closing the account. He asked me why I wanted to cancel and I told him that the user, my father, had died. His reply? "Well, I'm sorry to hear that. Are you sure your mother wouldn't want to continue the account?"
Fuck. That was two years ago and I still get enraged thinking about that conversation.
Who can say what you should or shouldn't do besides yourself, but I can give you my own experience. I'm 34 and have been coding since I was 18 (dropped out of college to start working with computers). Recently I moved from an all coding all the time position to a manage 80% of the time and code 20% of the time. I've been miserable ever since.
This is just me personally. I don't like being a manager. I like being up to my eyebrows in lines of code and since I'm spending only a few hours per week doing what I like, and days of my week doing what I don't, I'd've opted for the lower number of dollars any day.
Oh, I'm soo right there with you on this one. My boss's boss uses "mute point" all the time and I need my paycheck too much to do anything about it, but eventually she's gonna notice that I physically cringe every time she says it. Of course, my best friend uses phrases like "I had boughtten it before" and "It costed way too much". It hurts a lot.
>>> My only complaint with his show is that we're not getting enough new episodes. They should make Food Network the "All-Alton-Brown-All-The-Time network!" Well maybe not that much, but you get the idea:-) >>>
It would certainly beat the All-Emeril-All-The-Time penchant they were on about a year ago. He was on twenty times a day. All-Alton-Brown would ROCK.
(By the way, Alton - if you happen to be a slashdotter - don't lose hope, I like your books MUCH better than Dr. Phil's).
I don't know... My computer recently installed (for itself with no provocation from me) a couple of casino games and a couple of spyware jobbys - at work, no less. Even better, when I removed the program I was presented a few minutes later by a message saying "We've noticed that Golden Palace has been removed from your system. Would you like to reinstall?"
Some of the spyware, malware, adware and other crap you get on your system can do some pretty funny stuff all by itself.

Good luck with it either way.
