A while back, I rented a dubbed version of Ghost in the Shell and was severely disappointed, bored, etc...
However... several years later, I got my hands on a subtitled version and decided to give it another go. Whether it was the absence of awkward English dialogue, or just seeing it for the second time, (I suspect the former) I found myself completely engaged in the movie. The idea of a ghost being a soul suddenly made sense. I also think the musical atmosphere is completely different when matched with Japanese dialogue.
I will definitely add that some anime, like cowboy bebop, have great dubbed versions. I just persionally think Ghost in the Shell is better experienced subtitled.
So if you picked up the dubbed version, expected more, and are willing to give it another shot, I highly recommend trying the subbed version. It might make all the difference.
