Most people do want choices though, within a certain spectrum. Read an article about Ford lately, and they're making even more cash off their main product (the F-150) by allowing customization.
I doubt anyone thinks we need 6b distros. And if you really wanted that 51st car, but also wanted OnStar, wouldn't you be glad it had it?
