My experiences with installing Linux on various hardware is that when it identifies the hardware and has a driver for it then it works great. I've found that there are times when Linux is much easier to get to work with some hardware (video cards) than Windows. I have a nVidia TNT and when I try to install it in Windows it never works no matter what I do. Windows refuses to work with it in more than 640 x 480 16 colors. But in Linux Red Hat identifies it immediately and correctly and the resolution and colors are the way they should be without having to mess with any complicated settings. However I have had problems with getting network cards to work, they just plugand play with the driver disk in Window but they don't work in Linux. (They're tulip clones)
The problem with your idea is that the media would scoop the interesting stories and not bother to do more than cusory fact checking. A mailing list for rumors that people could discuss then post the most factual stuff elsewhere could work though.
Don't you know what timezones are? If it was posted in a time zone one hour ahead of you then it would be correct. Like if you're in Colorado and Slashdot is in Michigan.
Actually under U.S. law hospitals are required to accept people in the emergancy room and they cannot require a proof of insurance. Unfortunately it gets abused so that people with very minor medical problems go to the emergancy room and tie up resources (such as supplies and a doctor's time that should go to people who really need it)
and i am not aware of the US govt ever stating that they would protect Canada any more so than they would protect any G7 country. Haven't you ever heard of NATO? The agreement there is that if any member country is attacked then the outher countries will defend it. And your universal healthcare is having serious problems. I heard that you guys are having problems with people being able to get into emergancy rooms. In the U.S. all people have access to emergancy rooms, there is no turning away.
I didn't mean to post at a 2 either. It's just that slashdot told me I wasn't logged in but then it logged me in and gave me the point automatically. Normally I would post something like that anonymously.
The solution is not quotas. Almost anyone in the United States can get on the internet if they choose to do so. If you choose to save some money rather than spend it on things you don't really need then you can buy a cheap computer which will be sufficient to get online, and if you have cable you can get rid of your cable and use that money to get online. Most americans have expendible income to get online if they really want to.
If you watch enough star trek you would know that antimatter is the byproduct of certain industrial processes. It was a pollutant but also a good source of energy so they usd it to power things.
That's pretty funny, the sad thing is I use road runner as my ISP and I'm afraid of what aol is going to do to me. I refuse to bend over for those guys.
Piracy is going to be the downfall of the internet. When media companies see people illegaly copying their products they will pressure Congress and the parliaments of other countries to have more control over data. Eventually routers will have to be approved by various governments and have ai routines to identify what will probably be watermarked data. It will have to decompress and analyze to determine it had modified to mask the watermark.
What is so bad about executing people from other countries? If their countries don't have capital punishment, they shouldn't have committed capital crimes in the State of Texas.
What do you mean? If the people show up on the court steps and are protesting, then they can get media to show up and get some attention. If they have good spokespeople then they can spin it for the media to show the truth about the whole thing. Hopefully ESR won't show up dressed like Obi-Wan again.
How does this make freeing java bad? You really can't cheat in java, you could make your vm faster but that benefits everybody if it's gpl'd because you have to release your changes.
The police need guns in part in order to catch criminals. Also to protect themselves. But your position is more consistent than some gun control advocates here on/. have. The police and the military are not different from ordinary people. If they are allowed to have guns then everyone else should. If you are going to take away all guns you should take away the police's guns as well.
Actually they'll prefer to use English because any French that someone outside of France could use is not RealFrench, and they really hate it. I know a french canadian girl who went to France and when she spoke French the people told her to stop because it wasn't good enough and to use English instead.

Some trolling is funny, but most of it is just lame. It seems all the funny trolls have left and now we are left with a bunch of losers.
Idiots will still post in mass. An increase in moderation will come soon enough as many people complain to Rob...
Well maybe the luddite is a former programmer/network admin. He could have completely burnt out in the computer industry and done something different.

The best place to send it would be bkimmel1@mac.com
But this would be almost perfect to power a Transmeta processor
Do you have a url to the techno version?
