  1. Start with Fiction Vs. Non on Solving the Home Library Problem? · · Score: 3, Insightful

Crazy High Tech Solutions pale in comparison to old - school ones. Divide your book cases up Fiction and Non and categorize from there. Put the books most commonly read on easy to reach shelves. My parents have easily that many and don't run into any problems looking for the book they want to read. It is enough to have a vague idea of where the book is, History of Computing - Non Fiction around shelf 3 and call it a day. How do people find books at a bookstore anyhow?

  2. I had a Credit Card at Seventeen geniuses!! on Credit Card Required To View 'M' Rated Information · · Score: 4, Informative

I live in California and I had my first Credit Card at 17. So just having a credit card doesn't make you an adult.
At the time it was guaranteed by my mother but I still had a number on it. So if they want to protect themselves it had better tie into a real database somewhere down the line which will tell them your age.

Seriously though I wore it around my neck to and from home but that's it. Who needs to be truckin' around to the supermarket with it?

  6. Just watch the egos on Communication Within Programming Teams? · · Score: 4, Insightful

I am currently working at home for a company where everyone does the same. Just keep your ego in check and expect to learn something in every communication you have (including any code dumps). I find that no single person always has the best ideas. Also if there is a standard just adhere to it until you know why it was done that way, then feel free to break it if you must but you at least know the context.
The big difference between less skilled developers and skilled ones is usually flexibility in how there code is written. Skilled developers know the best way, whereas less skilled are willing to learn.
BTW in case you can't tell I feel people who "know the best way" generally don't!

Why not get a cue cat and scan your books? You can run an application against Barnes and Noble or Amazon and parse out all kinds of stuff. I wrote one that even grabbed the front cover image to stuff in my database. Good Luck!

I remember walking out of the college course where I was first told about Turing machines. It gave me a lot of satisfaction when I told my friends that God is a Turing Machine. So There!
