The word show implies that the screen is doing the work, not your mind. "Makes you think it displays millions of colors" doesn't sound like a good ad pitch.
To Microsoft OOXML may have mattered a lot, it's their only option to prevent being the only office software maker that does not support any standards and that after repeated court orders to facilitate interoperability.
That sign about smoking is so they can be absolutely sure there's no old looking kid getting by without being carded, if you limit it to those who look underage then the cashier might overestimate the age of the customer and fail to identify a minor. Kids are succeptible to peer pressure and when one kid tells the others how cool it is to smoke then more start with it and the addiction usually stays with them. An adult is less likely to start smoking so by preventing children from smoking (haven't seen much success with that though) you reduce the number of smokers in the long term.
Some train stations here have made the whole grounds non-smoking, seems to be mostly about keeping the floor clean, used cigarettes everywhere isn't clean and smokers have a tendency to spit on the ground a lot when smoking, making it look even dirtier.
Terrorism is about creating a sentiment of fear inside the target population to effect a change. Taking clearly mishandled children away from their parents does not instill fear in any reasonable person.
Reentry is hot because it's fast, the speed hitting friction causes a lot of heat. Slowly lowering a payload through the atmosphere won't create significant heat from friction though it might take a few days to get through the atmosphere at such a speed.
AFAIK another flying car prototype got demoed recently. Considering the situation on the roads it's probably better to leave cars without the ability to fly.
You hold a piece of string with a weight at the other end and you need a certain minimum angular velocity if you want to spin that around you. If you go too slow, the rope will simply wind up around you NO MATTER what material you use.
The experiment with the string requires you to keep the weight moving by pulling it with the string, a real satellite does not get pulled by a wire, it moves by its own inertia. The wire isn't what's keeping it in orbit, that's the combination of centrifugal force and gravity.
One hit from a debry or a little too much force and you got a leak, good luck fixing that. Also pressure is not constant throughout a vertical tube, gravity makes sure the pressure increases at the bottom the higher the pillar is. To get a decent pressure at the payload you'd have to produce an insane amount of pressure at the bottom.
Challenging maybe but the most prolific hackers these days aren't doing it for prestige or challenge, they're doing it for profit and the number of compromised systems directly affects your profit.
I think they were measuring response times, not security. Security is affected by many more things, including the number of unknown vulnerabilities (which you can't really measure).

The word choice seems wrong until you consider the "pixel" to be one of the RGB subpixels on the screen.
I think the point is just to get your hopes up.
Yes, OOXML does indeed look like a big joke.
You can get away with anything if there's no law against it. Apparently corrupting or stacking standardization boards is not outlawed anywhere.

I still laugh about the "there is no way to rule innocent men" claim.

You mean counter-dysgenics.
Perhaps it's time to add some aphrodisiac to the drinking water...

It's connected to Homsar, actually.
Why an asteroid? You can just use the motor assembly as a counterweight.

Same as with every spacecraft: Extinguish, escape or die.

Yeah but that doesn't mean we can't make their life hard for picking a job that involves being an annoying asshole.
So we got the ease of use vs security issue again...
Your description sounds like you should just use online banking software instead of a website with a crippled browser.

Because it's correct on one side of the pond (probably the one you are not from).

Noone would care about a difference of a few minutes.
