I had the same problem once (and only once, this is quite strange) with FC1, but I succeeded in solving the problem.
I had a Fat32 partition completely messed up. Windows couldn't see it anymore.
I booted the system with Knoppix (I think it was 3.2) and used fsck. In a few minutes, without any unusual setting I got my partiton back!
