s!(?:^|\w*/|\.\./|\./)[^\s,@;:]*(? Interesting? Thats a one line regexp which does something which appears to be very very simple to do, but actually isnt.

That looks really simple? Sorry but it doesn't look to me. Perl may be a a very very powerful language, but that alone does not make it a language of choice.

Well that is a regular expression, not Perl. It's a different language, and is the standard way of handling strings in most programming languages. To be honest, I first learned about them in a formal language class in college, years before I picked up Perl.

If you don't like regular expressions, that's your choice, but it really has nothing to do with Perl, and you should try to understand them, as they are very useful, even outside programming.

Nobody is asking for patches, but some feedback from professionals is always appreciated. Implementation hints are also welcomed, even if you are not a programmer.

Once you have the Adobe SVG viewer it should work just fine with Internet Explorer.

On the other hand, SVG is included in the development Firefox version and should be available in the next major release (1.5 ? i think they're skipping 1.1-1.4 ). More info at this FAQ.

Anyway, it's very funny how Adobe is into this SVG hype at adobe.com/svg for a long time now, and Adobe and Macromedia are basically the same company.

Maybe the whole thing is intended to promote SVG, I mean this comes from (pretty much) the same guys that are giving that EULA:

Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) is a text-based graphics language that describes images with vector shapes, text, and embedded raster graphics.
SVG files are compact and provide high-quality graphics on the Web, in print, and on resource-limited handeld devices. In addition, SVG supports scripting and animation, so is ideal for interactive, data-driven, personalized graphics.
SVG is a royalty-free vendor-neutral open standard developed under the W3C (World Wide Web Consortium) Process.
Adobe has taken a leadership role in the development of the SVG specification and continues to ensure that its authoring tools are SVG compatible.

    - Intelligence comes handy when one is 5 level deep in a nested function (which can't be simplified) and trying to add another 2 levels at once.

Yeah, I'm sure it does. Or maybe that good inteligence should not be wasted on 7 level deep functions that need rewriting anyway?

The Linux Kernel coding style does have an insight on this issue:
Now, some people will claim that having 8-character indentations makes the code move too far to the right, and makes it hard to read on a 80-character terminal screen. The answer to that is that if you need more than 3 levels of indentation, you're screwed anyway, and should fix your program.

Autotrace - a vital tool if you are wanting to vectorize raster images. There are a lot of tracing programs out there, but this one seems fairly popular. Not sure if it strictly fits the definition of a "drawing program", though.

    Don't forget about potrace.

The SVG output is absolutely amasing, much better than anything i've seen before. It's great for tracing company logos or for creating fonts out of scanned texts.

I mean, people with no social life shouldn't have to pay, since they hardly make use of their ringtones.
