Actually, the Nintendo 64 was also $199.99 at its launch. Plus you received a free Super Mario 64 t-shirt and an N64 bag if you reserved one at Toys 'R' Us! -- "I was a fool to think I could dream as a normal man." B. B. Buick
Computers in schools? Who's going to teach the classes? How many people actually go into the computing field in order to teach kids how to use them? Nobody, since teachers get paid very little compared to programmers. What happens? The computer people who become teachers are often the ones who COULDN'T make it as programmers or professors or technicians, etc. You also have the problem that many high schools have very outdated equipment. My high school (a private school, nonetheless) was using TRS-80's and Apple II's until three years ago. What were the options for classes? Typing and Pascal programming. Most of the machines were still running Win 3.1 when I graduated a year ago.
Putting computers in schools isn't worth very much if you don't follow through. -- "I was a fool to think I could dream as a normal man." B. B. Buick
They were making noise a while ago about getting rid of making desktop PowerPC's and focusing on embedded chips, which was a bigger profit. -- "I was a fool to think I could dream as a normal man." B. B. Buick
OK, first we have IBM handing out free specs for PowerPC motherboards. Now Motorola is taking over the most popular MacOS IDE. It looks they're really attempting to dump Apple this time, instead of just threatening them.
Where else might they shop for OS's? Linux certainly. BeOS? I doubt it, with Intel investing in Be.
What about Amiga? -- "I was a fool to think I could dream as a normal man." B. B. Buick
If you want to climb up the stairs to change your playlist, be my guest.:-) Why not make a tape or MD of your mp3's and save yourself the walk? -- "I was a fool to think I could dream as a normal man." B. B. Buick
