Okay, first things first, The mac OS is BSD. I'm seeing a lot of my Linux boys posting some not so true stuff about the Mac X OS. The way I see it, a mac is a happy medium between *NIX and the MS world of things. Having used quite a few different OS's in my day, nothing compares to Mac OS X. Its the stability and a common sense structure of a Linux platform with a good GUI front end. Something both Linux and Windows loose out on in different areas. Sorry, but KDE, Gnome, and BlueCurve have a long way to come before they bring linux to the hard drive of the non-technical staff that I work with.

I totally agree on the default install issue. And it's really the same across most business too. I work in a remote office of some 100+ employees, most of which barely know a world outside of Windows.
But I think its no longer an issue of what's being offered by MS, most companies are very loyal to the brand and will buy whatever is thrown at them. If your company is a SELECT Licensing customer, you know exactly what I'm talking about. Many could argue it's because they we're never completely satisfied with the previous offering. But your right in saying it's exactly what is contributing to a belief that Microsoft 'IS' the computer world, or at least it is to those who don't know anything about the computer world. And as a professional web developer I can only dream of a day when things like Active X just go away.

That's just it, I was being polite. I was following their lovely policy and procedure on support. Some people in Support need to understand that not everyone is an idiot on the other end of the line and that if you don't know the answer to the question it's better left unanswered.

  4. Logitech's 'Black Hole Of Mousepaddery' on Worst Explanation From Tech Support? · · Score: 5, Funny

I once had to call into the 'lovely' folks at Logitech to deal with issues regarding a wireless keyboard and mouse package. At the time the keyboard and mouse would randomly loose their connection to the base station. So after doing some standard troubleshooting myself and checking every concievable thing, I bit the bullet and called them. The guy on the line was not only rude but I questioned whether he had attended his science classes back in grade 10. Call it manufacturer denial, but he tried to insist that the colour of my mouse pad would somehow 'suck' the RF signals into its deep black hole of 'mousepaddery' before they got to the base station less then a foot away. The word 'wow' came to mind, but for all the wrong reasons. I know dark colours can attract certain waves better then others but come on!
