People see the entire RIAA represented music industry as a greedy dinosaur that's enacted a bunch of really bad laws which they are abusing beyond the intent of any legislative intent.
Slashdot is a very unrepresentative sample of "people"...
Why? I can believe that copyright infringement is immoral, and at the same time believe it should not be extended to descendants of the creator of a work, can't I? As for the "any copying is infringement", I meant in the sense of currently copyrighted works.
I don't troll. I just state what I believe. I believe that people should be fairly reimbursed for their work, and that copyright infringement is immoral. If that's "trolling" then this place is FUBAR.
Most people who use LimeWire do not use it on a try-before-you-buy basis and indeed use it in place of actually buying music. That is my assertion, backed up by my own (albeit anecdotal) evidence. Bear in mind that while most Slashdotters may use P2P as a try-before-you-buy medium, Slashdot represents a very small percentage of people overall.
No offence here, your post is good, but saying something looks just as good as Windows 98 is like saying something smells just as good as fresh dog shit. Win98 looked terrible, WindowMaker still does (doesn't have to though) and TWM isn't even up to Win98s low standards. Enlightenment is great for eye candy though:)
Yes. People, corporations etc are and should be allowed to own copyright on works, and ensure that copyright is not being infringed through the legal system.
And every time i've used windows, i've faced viruses, nagging, spyware, intrusive spying, and massive inefficiency.
Then with all due respect, you must be a fucking moron.
I run Win2K with Firefox, Thunderbird etc. No viruses. No spyware. No "intrusive spying". And no insane memory usage as with Linux and KDE/GNOME.
Personally I'd prefer one time aggrivation of having to compile and configure things the hard way than continued slowdowns, viruses, hacking, and spyware.
None of which anyone with clue has.
this is myth. OSX is a bsd derivitive. This means you can, with the installation of a few libraries (like libgtk), install most unix or linux apps if you don't like apple's stuff.
He's talking about not being able to install OSX on a standard PC. Nothing more.
Offtopic? Hah, this post is funny as hell :)

Now, you can engage in a dialogue where you question whether copyright should include this or not, but when somebody tried to do that, you disagreed.
What? You're talking shite. Sorry.
Furthermore, you've already stated that corporations should be entitled to copyright. Corporations can be immortal.
Can be, but usually aren't. People damn well thought Standard Oil was invincible, now they're just broken into little pieces.

People should be reimbursed for the rest of their natural lives, yes. Not descendants or any of that bollocks.
HAHA! Coffee meet screen :)

and so it goes... the next 50 years look to be tough years.
I'm trying to be optimistic about there being another two months, personally.

YOU may do that. Most people don't.
Finally, someone else who thinks like I do :)

Joke's been done to death here already mate :)
I actually called myself JohnLenin on IRC for a while...
As someone else pointed out, his actions seem to be the antithesis of his philosophy.
It's a website full of guitar tabs of quite clearly copyrighted music. Of course it fucking infringed on copyright.
Fair use is quite obviously not a whole song's guitar tabs. A short riff, perhaps, but not the whole damn song.
Any of it! Hence "copyright", the right to copy. That is what is provided for under law, and it's a system fair to all parties.

Oh yes, while I'm here, the "ensuring..." quote in the summary is a complete fabrication.
Lennon/McCarthy? I doubt McCarthy would be happy to be working with someone as socialist as Lennon... ;)
Website breaks copyright law, gets shut down. Film at 11.
Yeah, shame about the software it licenses, eh :)
I want these motherfucking bacteria off this motherfucking uranium. ...motherfucker.
